Pixel Rose Divider - Bright RedPLAYHOUSE CAST CARDS: Pixel Rose Divider - Bright Red

We wanted a way to reward people for auditioning for multiple shows even if they didn’t get the parts they wanted! So, for every 3 shows you have auditioned for you can submit your auditions and receive a Playhouse Cast Card! This is counted per show not per audition, so multiple auditions for a single show still only count as one. (The reward for auditioning more than one character generally means you have a higher chance of getting a part, after all). Each batch of cards will be released with the upcoming play! So if you missed submitting your application 2 weeks before the release of the next show you'll have to wait till the next show for it to come out!

Animal Crossing Bell Coin Emoticon Playhouse Bell Log:Animal Crossing Bell Coin Emoticon

The theater is completely self sufficient, we don’t take any bells for ourselves it’s more of a community pool of funds from donations given through ticket and item purchases. We’re just having fun running it.

The money in the playhouse is also used to buy the costumes, merchandise for the gift shop and special items to spoil the staff and cast.

Even if Orland and Ari get a part in the play we don’t add ourselves to the dividing pool of bells

CC- Opening Night! [CatCF]The opening night was as busy as ever, and Ari watched from behind the curtain as friends and families took their seats. She bit her lower lip and glanced over her shoulder at the actors getting into places, their makeup and costumes already donned. Everyone seemed to feel the nerves of performing in front of a live audience starting to creep up on them, and she knew it was she and Orland’s responsibility to help reassure them before they got on. Sighing, she put a paw over her heart and looked down at her feet for a moment, collecting herself. In her head, she did a quick check list of prep they had gotten done:The sets were ready to go, the props prepared… Their special effects, light and sound crew were on watch, and of course the stagehands, ever alert, knew their cues for set changes and all the Oompa-Loompa outfits for everyone were donned or ready for those that were playing several parts to change into when needed. Reassured, she took a deep breath and caught Mimo’s eye as the raider carried a large lollipop across the stage so the prop was in an easy-to-grab place for the candy land scene. Smiling, she nodded to her and then cast her gaze about for Orland who would be dressed as a dapper old rabbit for the part he was getting to play this time around. When she didn’t see him bobbing his way around actors and double checking things as she usually would during this time, she blinked slowly with surprise and then asked the general group behind the curtains, “Has anyone seen Orland?”“Could be dead,” answered Vassa matter-of-factly, as it fit his usual philosophy of expecting the worst just in case. The little kobold was scurrying around under everyone’s feet as he double-checked that all the sets were safe and secure. “But maybe he’s just having his usual pre-show breakdown in the bathroom. I can check if you’d like.”Ari frowned. Sometimes Vassa’s past friendship with Orland meant he knew better than she when it came to her own husband… but she pushed the mild flash of jealousy away and shook her head. “That’s alright, I know we need you up on the catwalk to make sure all the riggings are working… Though we use magic for the fizzy lifting drink part, it’s still important to have the safety lines just in case.” She dipped her head and started off to the dressing rooms and the bathrooms to find Orland. On her way she stopped here and there to make sure people were ready to go. Everyone was here, but Orland was nowhere to be found… She paused and searched past her own feelings of nerves and such to see what Orland was feeling. This was yet another show they wouldn’t be acting in together and she herself felt guilty for giving away her part yet again… Was he upset with her still? But there was no need to search her feelings, as an odd strained noise behind one of the costume racks made its way to her ears. It sounded as if someone was in considerable pain… or having horrible stomach issues.Ari ran there immediately and nearly knocked over the entire rack as she pulled the clothes aside. “Is everything alright? What’s happening?” she squeaked, her eyes wide in alarm. And there was Orland, bent over double and making some sort of strangled noise, his face red with effort. He blinked at the sound of Ari’s voice and turned around, suddenly completely okay.“Oh, there you are, darling. Sorry. I was practicing.”She blinked right back and then tilted her head, looking at him with concern before it struck her. “Burping. Oh Orland, I thought we resolved that! Sonia has a plethora of sounds recorded just for the occasion.” She knelt down and put her paws on either side of his cheeks. “I love you… but the show is starting soon! They need you out there to raise their spirits as well.”But Orland looked Ari straight in the eyes and clenched his fist dramatically. “But Ari… How can you love a man that can’t burp…?”Laughing, she shook her head and then met his eyes, completely sincere. “Did you know that in some countries burping is considered rude and disgraceful? I love you just as you are, burping or no. Why would you even question that?” She touched her nose to his and purred.Orland sighed, his expression grumpy even as his wife nuzzled him adorably. “I just hate admitting defeat like this. But I suppose there’s no more time to get it right… Guess it’s time to rally the troops. Help me put on a brave face, Ari… I can’t have them seeing me with an expression of mortifying failure. Terrible blow to morale.”“Of course,” she said with all seriousness and then teasingly started squishing his cheeks. “Just gotta mold it into an expression of absolute confidence, right dear?” She put on a show of looking extremely concentrated on what she was doing before ending with a kiss to his forehead. “Aaaaaand finished! How do you feel?” She hoped that had helped a little…Orland stared back at her, his face molded into a ridiculous sort of expression through Ari’s handiwork. He tried very hard not to change it.“Very confident,” he assured her. “Best not stall any longer… You’ll have to be onstage soon, yes?”Biting her lip to try and keep from laughing, Ari nodded and stood, taking his paws to help him to his feet. “Of course, I’m introducing the show after all.” Her eyes twinkled and she gave his paws a squeeze. “Don’t worry… This time I think I can handle the spotlight alone for a few moments.” Then they slipped through the dressing room and backstage where the cast and crew were nervously awaiting the show’s start. They were still on time… but cutting it close!A few people seemed on the verge of asking Orland what was wrong with his face… then seemingly thought better of it. Opening night was a bad time to work one of the directors into a fuss. Thankfully, whatever was ailing him didn’t seem to be keeping him from taking charge again. He climbed atop a crate full of props so everyone could see him and raised his arms.“Right! Plenty of us are old hats at this by now, yes? Nevertheless, I imagine the pre-show jitters are still affecting plenty of us. But not to fear! I believe in all of you most wholeheartedly… and if any of you get stuck, Ari is there to help prompt you… Just make sure to keep your earpieces in. And don’t eat them, please.”Ari tilted her head quizzically at Orland when he talked about eating the earpieces but most of the group just chuckled. A good laugh would ease the nerves after all, and perhaps that was what he was going for. Smiling, she took a deep breath herself and made her way towards the curtain. It was showtime. The prelude music slowed and quieted as she took a few steps out into the spotlight through the curtains and stood blinking at the gathered audience. A lot of the people gathered were still in their PogoCon outfits and she wondered just how well they could see through those hoods of theirs. Still, the music alone should be enjoyable this evening! She looked down at Tyreanna through the small peekaboo window and gave a nod as the music entirely stopped with a wave of her baton… and then Ari spoke up.“Ladies and gents! Children of all ages! Welcome to the Meadow Heart Playhouse! Thank you for joining us this evening and we ask all of you with cell phones to quiet them so as to not startle our cast up here and make them forget a line.” She paused and raised a brow at a few glowing screens that quickly shut off. “I hope you can join us on a journey to a place of limitless possibilities… Under this roof after all, drama comes to life!” And she bowed and snapped her fingers as she did so, the lights immediately turning off as she disappeared down a trap door below and the chocolate factory music rolled out of their live orchestra!Orland was backstage ushering all the child actors out onto the stage, reminding them all not to go too crazy with the candy while onstage. He still couldn’t be completely sure they would all heed his words. Lastly, he made his customary offer to help lead Sugar onstage, but she waved him off as usual in that charming grandmotherly way of hers. Obviously she didn’t need the help, as she’d proven herself perfectly capable of the dancing and twirling involved in her opening number… but she reminded Orland so much of his own mother that he couldn’t help but make the offer anyway. The curtains opened to a beautifully colorful set designed to look like any child’s dream… a candy shop bursting with delicious looking sweets of all kinds. They had opted for real treats so the kids could eat them onstage, and the catering crew had outdone themselves when it came to providing these props. Fable, in addition to making a fantastic Willy Wonka, was also quite an accomplished sweet-maker in their own right and had gone above and beyond in producing all the candy used in the production. And not only did it taste wonderful… but aesthetically, it was the most eye-catching candy one could imagine! Perfect for popping onstage!Ari tapped her earpiece and winced a little as she heard a few of the kids squeaking with delight on stage at the sight of the shop. They had kept a lot of the scene as nonedible props throughout the rehearsals so that no children might get sick from overeating sugar— and a select few who couldn’t have chocolate— all month. Their eyes lit up as they were given and tossed candy right and left from Sugar as the old candy shop owner sang and told them about the wonders of Willy Wonka’s skill and the candy he could make! Lotus got to be one of the kids to sit on the counter and toss some of the candy from jars to the other kids, while at one point Sprout, true to the role he was given, ran around Sugar and nearly ended up knocked on his back as the countertop hit him in the head. A few of the crowd gasped and laughed along with the kids, but Ari did hope that the bun— who was such a big fan of her husband’s— would be alright. She knew Orland had just wanted to give him some specific role at least… While the audience and everyone seemed to be taken in by the wonderful shop front and its edible props (a few candies had even been scattered out into the audience itself), there was one kid that was obviously not allowed to partake of such splendor. Ari had to admit, both of their Charlies for the play had the biggest and best sad-looking puppy dog expressions of longing. Pita at the moment had his face pressed up against the glass to the shop on the side of the stage and clearly was left out… but wanted in.Orland wagged his tail as he watched Pita’s pathetic little performance onstage. Surely the boy was tugging at hundreds of heartstrings right now… Orland had been particularly excited to work alongside both Pita and Squay in this production, as both boys seemed to worship the ground he walked on. This made for a particularly believable chemistry between Charlie and Joe, along with the added benefit of keeping Orland in a particularly good mood all through rehearsals due to his ego being constantly stroked. But Orland was genuinely incredibly fond of both boys and was excited to see his young protégées doing so well onstage.Pita, of course, got the lead, however. And he certainly knew how to look upon things in wonder and awe. It seemed to be his particular specialty. Orland couldn’t help but glance out into the audience where he and Ari had made sure to save seats for Leeks and her family so they could watch Pita strutting his stuff from the front row. Leeks seemed to have a knack for raising theatric kids! Sprinkles had been equally as fun to work with, Orland thought, and he was beyond pleased to work with her brother. …They were siblings now, right? The music of the first song would peter off and the entire candyshop would roll off stage, thanks to Mimo and Axel’s great strength and their work as stagehands. The transitions were some of Ari’s favorite in this show because there was a lot of rotating parts… but then again that just meant that she had to make sure everything was working. She cued the next part which was a shabby looking home front that Pita was dejectedly walking in place “towards” with his hands in his coat pockets. And then the complete destitution that he lived in would be seen by everyone in the audience as a one room home was set up and a bed full of grandparents would be rolled out. This would be Orland’s chance to shine! And she found it funny he got to play Luna’s dad… Luna herself was stirring a pot over a magical faux fire and the people in the front row would get a whiff of what smelled strongly of cabbages. It was such a stark contrast to the colorful candy store it seemed even more bleak!Orland meanwhile had made himself quite comfortable in the giant bed that took center stage. He quite liked it… He wished it would fit in his and Ari’s room at home. Perfectly roomy even when shared with three other people! Peaches and Cream Puff looked nice and cozy over on the other side, though he hoped they weren’t too cozy. Couldn’t have his actors falling asleep in the middle of the scene! He turned and grinned at Blackberry beside him, playing his wife. He’d had fun playing her love interest in Beauty and the Beast and thought it would be funny to pair the two of them up again. Blackberry didn’t smile back. He supposed she was simply in character. Well… Good for her.Lucky, one of the resident firefighters, made his way up to Luna, as he was playing her husband. Orland thought it outrageously funny to cast a cat and a dog as a married couple… Even funnier than a cat and a rabbit, really! And when Pita walked through the door, the crowded little family home was finally complete. Two cats, two rabbits, a dog, a cow, and a sheep. Perfectly normal when it came to Lilypad standards, really. While the home had been quite dreary, the entire place, from the lighting to the people’s faces, seemed to light up when Charlie walked in! Truthfully it was a bit of light tricks as well but the meaning was obvious: everyone here loved Charlie! And Orland, having kids of his own now, seemed to be able to pull off an exceptionally good endearing expression. Luna gave Pita a hug and asked him about his day, and he told them about his paper route and asked what was for supper. Despite all the complaints when it was announced it was cabbage soup again, everyone ate… and when the bowls were passed about Pita spoke up, “Grandpa Joe! Can I hear another story tonight?”Luna put her hands on her hips and stood beside her “husband” as she raised a brow at her father. “Just one story, Charlie. You have school in the morning.”Storytelling was, of course, Orland’s forte, so he was excited to play the part of a storyteller. He made a big show of sitting up in bed as Blackberry rolled her eyes and patted a place next to him on the mattress for Pita to sit. The kitten stared at him all starry-eyed, the perfect audience. But of course Orland wasn’t about to tell the story alone. Blackberry, Cream Puff, and Peaches all had their own interjections and additions. Orland, in fact, encouraged a bit of ad-libbing. There was just something charming about a full set of obstinate yet eager-to-please grandparents. A spotlight came on as the stage darkened slightly… and as the story of Willy Wonka and his amazing chocolate factory began, Momus made his silent entrance onstage as a figment of fanciful imagination. At this point of the show, Emera and Momus teamed up to magically make his face unintelligible, as if it was a bit blurry and hard to make out. He was there for show of course! To show off all the splendiferous things he imagined up in that wonderful chocolate factory of his. Orland and the other elderly folk would spin Pita tales all together! And as each tale was told, Momus had fun extracting the candies described and showing it to the audience, letting kids from on stage even sample a few. “There was chewing gum that would never lose its flavor!” Cream Puff chirped, “for the kids with very little pocket change and wanted something sweet to eat!”“And lickable wallpaper for children’s rooms! Where every fruit was a different flavor~!” giggled Peaches, all cozied up next to her partner.“And I swear on my life that he created these little robin egg candies that when you put them on your tongue, they would melt away and a little bird would hatch out of it!” Blackberry sighed dreamily, doing a pretty good impersonation of a wistful old lady. There was a twitter from the lit side of the stage as Sprout, one of the "kids" on stage, opened his mouth and a little yellow canary flew out of it, singing. It circled the audience and then disappeared in a puff of glitter.“Wonka was commissioned the world over for special sweets they couldn’t get from anybody else!” Orland said bombastically, pointing towards the spotlight where Cyrus had just entered. The little gerbil was all dressed in fantastic sparkling robes and had a very fancy headdress that Orland suspected contained real jewels. The costuming department tended to go all out.The story of Willy Wonka and Prince Pondicherry was a particularly silly one, but little Charlie ate it up. Cyrus puffed his little chest out with pride and asked in his most regal voice for a palace made entirely of chocolate! He wanted everything to be made of the stuff! The floors, the walls, the ceiling, the roof, the furniture… and Wonka took it all in stride! Before the audience’s eyes, the magnificent chocolate palace rose up thanks to the diligent work of the stagehands who brought the set in piece by piece. It was not, in fact, made of real chocolate, but wax. It was set up on a transparent tarp that had been laid across a section of the stage that would hopefully remain invisible to the audience… but would assist greatly when it came time for cleanup. Orland was insistent that nothing ruin his stage, no matter how amazing the effect. When it was completed, it stood tall, looking for all the world like a true mini palace of chocolate, and Momus twirled his cane, “You better eat that quickly… when it gets hot it might all melt around you!” he warned. But to this, little Cyrus just laughed, tossing his bejeweled hat, for why would he eat such a beautiful palace? “Eat it? No sir, I am planning on living in it!” And then he went into the palace… And Orland shook his head at that as Willy Wonka left the stage. “But Mister Willy Wonka was right… because as the sun reached the highest peak on the hottest day of the year… the palace did indeed start to melt. And Prince Pondicherry soon found himself swimming in a lake of chocolate that once was his grand palace!” The heat lamps and magic used to melt the palace were just hot enough to melt the wax! And though there were cries of alarm from inside the palace, Ari and Orland had made sure the little gerbil had long since left it so he wouldn’t have to suffer wax in his fur. Instead, by the end of it, the palace was a puddle and in the middle was the prince’s hat… which he would walk out and claim after a quick freezing spell made the wax safe to walk on when the curtains were closed. The spotlight returned center stage and focused on the giant bed in the shabby little shack. Pita, still starry-eyed, gasped in amazement. He lamented that he couldn’t see the wonderful chocolate factory for himself, which all four grandparents echoed. Indeed, the oddest thing about the factory was that after it closed itself to the public (due to other candy competitors trying to steal Wonka’s secrets for their own), nobody was ever seen entering or exiting… and yet candy was still produced! It was a mystery that had yet to be solved…“All right, I think it’s time for you all to get some proper rest,” Luna interrupted, gently helping Pita down from the bed and shuffling him off towards his own little bedroom. “Heads full of dreams are all well and good, but you can dream as you sleep.”Like a good little kid, Pita scampered off to the attic of the house where he had a bed. There he pulled out a flashlight and then some paper and the lights of the stage dimmed except for the one spotlight on Charlie. Ari had been nervous about Pita or Squay singing since they weren’t entirely used to doing such a thing, but both had thrown themselves into rehearsals and so her fears had eased, especially as he sang now! Writing and singing his letter to Willy Wonka aloud as the grandparents and Luna and Lucky got to have a bit of spotlight time too receiving these wonderful imagined candies and treats their son wished to be made for them.It was a simple sweet view into Charlie’s character. A little boy who just wanted to see his parents and grandparents smile! And who wanted nothing more than a bar of chocolate that perhaps he could share with the man behind the genius of the factory himself. As the last notes of the song faded so did the lights and Charlie would “fall asleep” with visions of all he had wished for still dancing on stage. Candy floss, marzipan dentures, and never melting ice cream though soon disappeared and it would be presumably the next day, for when the set lights came back on it was to a school setting where little Pita was among all the kids from the candy shop listening to Devin go on about science! It was meant to be a funny and cynical sort of scene, and though they didn’t usually cast Devin for his comedic abilities, he certainly was able to deliver his lines in exactly the sort of tired deadpan manner that made it work. It was just another boring day for students and teacher alike, neither party showing anything resembling enthusiasm for the subject matter… but there was a sudden commotion outside that interrupted the dull lesson. Devin sighed loudly and opened the door, dragging an excitable Squay into the room and demanding to know what was going on.“Didn’t you hear?” Squay gasped. “Willy Wonka is opening his factory for the first time in years! He’s giving all his chocolate away!” This, of course, was astonishing news, sweeping through the classroom and causing all the students to gasp in delight.“Class dismissed!” Devin announced, grabbing his coat. But Squay interrupted him.“No, no, it’s only for five people!”“Class undismissed,” Devin grumbled, putting his coat back on the rack. But Squay continued on.“He’s giving away five golden tickets! The first five people to find them get to go in! You have to buy Wonka bars to find them!”“CLASS REDISMISSED,” Devin announced to general pandemonium. All around him, the children scrambled for the door, joining the merry mayhem. But there was one child left sitting alone in the classroom… Little Pita sighed sadly, knowing full well he didn’t have the money for even a single bar of chocolate. The entire classroom was pushed off the stage by the crew as the crowd of children and all the actors ran about the stage creating a cacophony of excited shouting and chatter as everyone was going to get chocolate bars! And then stepping to the front of the stage, a fashionable raider lady with a wide grin stepped forward, a microphone in hand. A spotlight fell on a news anchor’s table to the side of the stage where Fable had taken their place, also grinning and shuffling papers as they announced that Willy Wonka’s challenge had thrown the entire world into chaos as Wonka bars flew off of shelves and were bought before they even made it to the store sometimes! Everyone was wanting to know who would be the first to find a golden ticket! And who would win the lifetime supply of chocolate!A bell went off and Karma spoke up, a huge German flag dropping down on the backdrop for a moment as another scene was wheeled on. A cafe where a little bear was eating a large three course meal…“Well, it wasn’t long at all for Wonka’s first Golden Ticket to find its way into someone’s lucky hands! And we find our first winner here in the heart of Bavaria… a young man named Augustus Gloop!” Karma excitedly thrust the microphone in the direction of Calamus and Elenor, who were seated in a fine restaurant in the midst of their meal. Calamus seemed very enthusiastic to play this role, as it involved him getting to eat all sorts of delicious things onstage. Orland had suggested he come to opening night with an empty stomach so he didn’t find himself sick afterwards. He hoped he had followed his advice…“Well of course my Augustus would be the first to find one,” Elenor said cheerfully in the German accent she had carefully practiced. “After all, he has quite the healthy appetite!” She patted Calamus’s head affectionately as he continued to eat— Mostly salmon, which had been obtained for him as a special treat. It pretty much ensured the boy would eat as ravenously as the script insisted. And here the mother and son combo would break into a song! It had been fun to work with Eleanor and Calamus, as they already had familial bonds they clearly cared for each other even if they bickered from time to time. And now they bounced off of each other in the silly little yodeling tune all about how Augustus was raised. When he was born he nearly bit the doctors hand off, and he ate and ate and ate since that day! But with more that he ate the more there was of him to love~! The audience chuckled from this jovial song though it was clear that it definitely wasn’t the healthiest way to raise a kid. As the news reporter went on about the discovery, anyone who was paying attention would see Orangie, dressed in a suspicious little suit and glasses, climb up onto Calamus’s shoulder to do some whispering in the kid’s ear… The whispering part had been tricky to work with because apparently the little guy was so used to shouting to be heard! But he definitely cut a sneaky little Slugworth! The spotlight eventually settled on the Buckets’ shabby little home again, the whole family gathered around to watch the news on their tiny little black and white TV set. Blackberry, Cream Puff, and Peaches all put on their best elderly impressions as they complained about the spoiled little boy on the screen. Nothing good could come of raising a child quite that indulgently, after all.Poor Pita, of course, simply placed his hand on his growling stomach. The Buckets certainly couldn’t afford to eat like that… but it was Augustus who would be going to the wonderful factory, not Charlie.“Well, there’s four more out there,” Orland said cheerfully, to which Pita’s ears perked up. Hope springs eternal, after all!Luna would chide Orland not to get the boys hopes up… but all the elderly folk said that Charlie had every bit of a chance as every other kid out there! It was hard not to raise the kids' hopes though, because it was clear everyone in the home wished that Pita could have the opportunity to go to the chocolate factory that he dreamed of. “It’s your birthday in a few days though! Let’s focus on that and it’s off to bed for you in the meantime.” But as Luna started ushering him to bed, the stage would unfold a different scene.A long table where everyone was dressed as workers, unwrapping piles and piles of chocolate bars. And on a raised platform above it all stood a little girl, her arms folded and a pout on her face. Beside her, Bug was standing, playing the part of looking nervous as the workers unwrapped away. “Daaadddy!” shouted Veruca, “Daddy, I wanted the first ticket! You promised me a ticket, daddy! Where is my ticket?!” Ari had to hand it to this new recruit to the theater… Lacey pulled off a good spoiled child act. From backstage, Orland watched Bug and Lacey go back and forth. It was traditional in most adaptations to show Veruca actually finding her ticket onscreen, perhaps to drive home the brattiness of her character in particular. Lacey seemed to be having a fun time stomping around and shouting… Sometimes it was a blast to simply throw a tantrum. Orland knew this well.Bug, as the desperate Mr. Salt, shouted at the workers to go faster and faster, and chocolate wrappers littered the stage… but finally there came an excited shout from Frances, who waved the newfound Golden Ticket in the air among the chaos that suddenly erupted. Lacey quickly raced through the crowd to claim what she considered rightfully hers while Bug sighed in relief. The spotlight centered around the two of them as the factory set was quietly cleared away, Karma stepping back onscreen as the news reporter to interview the new worldwide celebrity!Karma was a star reporter, calling in to Fable from all the way in Russia to bring everyone the news! And when she asked Veruca about how she got her ticket, Lacey responded with a wide grin, hands on her hips, “I told my daddy I wanted the ticket!”“And whatever my daughter wants, as her father I must get!” Bug pulled off a fairly good accent as well as they broke into the fourth number for the play, the daughter-father duo bouncing off of each other in the most entertaining of ways! It was basically Bug singing around the character Veruca’s demands of “Want” “Now” and “Mine”! It was another display of a parent indulging their child in an unhealthy way in yet another bouncy bright song where the parents definitely felt like they were doing it because they cared about their child…“And that was Veruca Salt and her father, the second gold ticket finders in the world! Only three more left! Who will be the lucky person to find the next~? Stay tuned and find out!” Karma would end as once again little Orangie would be seen climbing up and whispering into Veruca’s ear this time. When their act was over and the light fell once again on the Bucket household, all the elderly folk got to complain about just how terrible this child was compared to the first! Nothing good could come from spoiling a child by giving them everything their heart desires. But in no time at all, the next ticket was found, this time in America. The stage cleared again as Karma found herself enthusiastically interviewing a sharply-dressed Harlow, who had his hand on the shoulder of Akiko who was idly blowing large bubbles with the gum she was chewing. The next winner was Violet Beauregarde, a child star whose father was enthusiastic about promoting as much as he possibly could. Orland found that Harlow and Akiko both had an energetic stage presence— and they obviously had chemistry, as they’d proven when they played Christine and the Phantom together. Now, however, they had an entirely different feel about them.Harlow began their fast-paced duet like an excitable wrestling announcer, playing up the introduction for the crowd and stirring them up before passing the mic to Akiko who had been working hard on her speedy lyrics. Rap was a new style for the Playhouse, but Orland actually found himself enjoying it. It was simply fast-paced rhythmic poetry! Maybe he’d try it sometime. Ari would love that.Ari peeked through the curtains on the side, making sure there wasn’t anything on the stage Harlow might trip on as he enthusiastically bounced around during the song, interjecting with an occasional announcement of praise for Akiko and her skills. She was the queen of pop~! Thankfully the stagehands knew by now the strengths and weaknesses of a few of the actors so there wasn’t much except the throne of pillows and flashing lights around Akiko for him to trip on. Ari was also glad none of them stumbled on their words either as the song came to a close with a few spatterings of impressed applause from the audience. That rap had been quite the tongue twister!Once again as Karma signed off, Akiko would get a visit from the mysterious little Slugsworth and the “News” would turn off to come back to the Bucket family and the obligatory elderly commentary. Blackberry sniffed and said snidely, “Chewing gum… what a nasty habit.” None of the family wanted to get Charlie’s hopes up but they all seemed eager about something as Pita walked in through the door. Moments later the audience would find out why as the entire family would wish the boy happy birthday and present him with the one bar of chocolate they could afford…Of course Charlie was unable to hide his excitement, but as he took the chocolate bar, he looked around at his family guiltily. But before he could protest, both Luna and Lucky interrupted. “It’s your birthday and we all wanted you to have a special present. Don’t fret about it.”“Okay…” Pita replied slowly, glancing back down at the candy. Orland, the irrepressible Grandpa Joe, was determined however to make sure he showed the proper excitement.“Well, what are you waiting for? You’ve got just as much chance as any other kid out there! Show us that gold, Charlie!” And with that, Pita’s ears perked up and he took a deep breath as he began to unwrap the chocolate. The whole family leaned forward as one with bated breath…“I GOT IT, I GOT IT!” Pita shouted as everyone gasped. But then he slowly and sheepishly held up the empty wrapper, no gold in sight. “Fooled you, didn’t I…?”Everyone groaned and there were a few mutters from the old folk but Luna and Lucky would chuckle with good humor, looking sadly at each other. Then Lucky would sigh, “Well, it’s off to work for me.”“And you better get your homework done after supper and head to bed tonight, Charlie.” Mrs. Bucket said as her husband kissed her cheek and started for the door. “Wait! Let me share this with you,” Pita said, hurrying over to his father. “With everyone! It’s my birthday and it’s what I want to do.” He started breaking off pieces of chocolate to share, which for a boy who had only the one bar to his name, was extremely selfless. Touched, everyone would accept the pieces and hug him before Lucky had to leave, and it was just Luna and Charlie heading off to bed. Though Pita insisted he was all right and knew he wouldn’t have gotten the ticket anyways, it was clear Luna really wished she could have given that to him at least… and as the lights dimmed in the home, the music struck up softly for a gentle lullaby that showed a few more days passing and the two parents’ love for Charlie and how they wished they could make him smile. Ari always teared up at this point, being a mother herself, and the tears on Luna’s own cheeks seemed very real. Lately the cat had been rather emotional after all, as she was soon to be a mother herself…“Are you crying…?” Blackberry whispered to Orland as the back curtain fell to cover the Bucket family set again. Orland quickly rubbed at his eyes.“No,” he lied unconvincingly. “One of my gorgeously perfect eyelashes just happened to get in my eye.” Blackberry looked as if she was straining not to roll her eyes, but Orland thought she’d understand if she ever became a parent someday. But as the song drew to a close, the spotlight found its way to the fourth ticket winner. The set had changed to a perfect suburban home, where Ashley took center stage with a giant smile on her face. Though it was an obviously false one, tinged with nerves. She was portraying Mrs. Teavee, mother to the next winner, Mike Teavee. Skinny was laying lazily across a couch and button mashing on a video game controller, seemingly uninterested in the interview that was currently taking place. Orland had found that Ashley and Skinny had exactly the sort of chemistry he was looking for in these characters. They must be good friends offstage, he thought! When Ashley managed to finally get Skinny to pay attention for the interview it became a terrifying duet of her trying to smooth over how normal their lives were while clearly Skinny’s actions were screaming anything BUT a good kid. Loud violent video games, traumatizing the neighbor’s pet and getting into fights with other kids clearly were behavior problems! It was more like a shouting match by the end of the song before Ashley seemed to admit defeat and sigh, sitting down with a glass of water and an exhausted expression. Even as the song ended and Orangie did his job, the lights faded and the scene changed back to the Bucket family once more to the remark of Grandma Josefina, “He’s the worst one of them all! Not a single one of those kids deserved a ticket… heavens.” And they all shook their heads in dismay. When Charlie got back later, no one had the heart to tell him the next ticket had been found so most of them feigned sleepiness. But since Luna and Lucky were both away working it seemed, only Grandpa Joe and Pita would be awake to talk about anything…“Charlie,” Orland whispered as he sat up in bed, gesturing for Pita to join him. “Come here… I have something special to show you.”Pita gasped when Orland pulled out yet another Wonka bar. Like the good kid he was, he tried to chide his grandfather for spending his money on chocolate, but he couldn’t deny how curious he himself was. How exciting the thought was that there could be a spectacular Golden Ticket just underneath this shiny purple wrapper…After a short debate, the two of them finally decided to open it together, slowly and carefully unwrapping the chocolate as slowly as possible… but as the suspense built and it was finally time to pull the wrapper down all the way… the soft music that had been building in anticipation came to a sudden stop as Pita held up yet another plain chocolate bar. The two of them stared at one another in defeated silence for a few moments.“You know,” Pita sighed, “I bet the gold makes the chocolate taste terrible.” At that, Orland offered Pita a consoling hug, and the two of them split up the chocolate bar in companionable silence as the spotlight dimmed once again. When the lights came back on, it was the Bucket house again, but there was no Charlie. Instead all the elderly people were sitting there looking solemn. Onstage. Pita approached the door to come in but stopped as the adults started talking, “Did you hear? They found the last ticket.”“Yes… Some prince in Albania or something,” muttered Blackberry.“Of course it would be a prince! He could have ordered an entire kingdom’s worth of chocolate!” Cream Puff complained loudly. There was silence and then her partner would say softly, “Poor Charlie…” Pita couldn’t bring himself to go in. In a way it was a relief not to have such a hope hanging overhead anymore that he knew he couldn’t possibly reach! But on the other hand how could the boy not be crushed? It had been his wildest dream to meet Willy Wonka after all! Instead of going in, he instead turned away and would meander across stage, hands in his pockets and his head down. The stagehands worked quickly to change the scene on the move from the Bucket house to the crowded city street, people all crowded around a newspaper stand and muttering to each other incoherently. But little Pita payed them no mind, sadly kicking a can across the stage idly. He gave it a big kick and sent it towards a little prop grate they had set up in center stage and as he made his way towards it, it was obvious that something caught his eye…Yes! After rooting around for a moment, Pita triumphantly held up a beautiful crisp ten pound note! But the jubilation lasted only a moment. After all, the contest was already won. There was no point in buying any more candy… Except Pita’s stomach growled loudly (aided by one of Sonia’s enthusiastic sound effects). Nothing wrong with buying another bar just for himself…The stagehands were hard at work with these quick on-the-spot scene changes, as the candy store materialized again. Sugar was contentedly wiping down the counters and humming to herself as Pita made his way inside. Pita glanced around at all the beautiful, tantalizing sweets surrounding him. It was enough to make anybody’s mouth water, really. Orland congratulated himself again on keeping the real sweets tucked away until opening night. They might have gone through their entire stock and had nothing left for the performance! It was bittersweet being inside a store full of candy when just days ago the candy was flying off the stage. Pita wandered up to the counter and would wait until Sugar noticed him. Then speaking up, he asked, “Can… I have one Scrumdiddlyumptious bar?”Sugar smiled. “But of course! It’s nice to see someone actually enjoying the chocolate after all that chaos!” She bent under the counter and came up with a single chocolate bar. Then she took his money and began counting out change. When she looked up though, she gasped, “Goodness, child! I take back the enjoyment part! Slow down, you can hardly taste it like that!” She laughed.“One more,” Pita said immediately after finishing the first one. Sugar chuckled and handed him a regular Wonka bar along with what remained of his change.“Try this one, then,” she said warmly. She really brought a grandmotherly air to the role… As sweet as her name. Pita nodded and began to unwrap it… and paused. He stood frozen in shock in the middle of the stage. Outside, voices from the street filtered in.“A fake! Can you believe it?”“Can’t believe that man created a counterfeit ticket!”“Did he really think he could get away with that?”“But don’t you see? That means there’s still one left!”“But where is it…?”Pita’s ears twitched and he was still staring down in disbelief. Then… he pulled it out with a trembling paw: the very golden ticket everyone was wondering about was his! Sugar noticed the child’s silence and then gasped, her own eyes widening. “Son, you better take that ticket and run. Run all the way home!” But a few people in the store had already begun to notice and a few tried surrounding him. “Ah! I’ll give you a thousand dollars for that!” A woman shouted. Another still would shout, “Ten thousand! I’ll give you ten!”But he ran and ran and ran, all the way offstage. Through the darkened stage, through a makeshift tunnel… where he was suddenly cornered by a small creature that seemed to drop from the very ceiling! It was Orangie, all dapper in his little suit and bowler hat and spectacles! Even though he was tiny, he still managed to come off as threatening as he scurried up into Pita’s shoulder amid the boy’s squeaks of terror.“Listen, boy,” Orangie said, pulling a business card out of his pocket and handing it to Pita. “I am Slugworth. Arthur Slugworth of Slugworth Chocolate Incorporated. When you enter the factory, I want you to obtain for me an Everlasting Gobstopper. If you bring it to me, there will be a reward beyond your wildest dreams. Remember this. Everlasting Gobstopper…”And just as soon as he appeared, he disappeared into the darkness, leaving Pita all on his own once more. He stood there in confusion for several long seconds… and then began running off again towards home. The stage darkened and the scene changed quickly as the orchestra swelled, and suddenly the Bucket house was visible again, the listless family laying about. But then Pita burst through the door, waving the ticket about wildly.“I GOT IT, I GOT IT, I GOT IT! I FOUND A GOLDEN TICKET! I GOT IT!”“…You’re pulling our leg, Charlie,” Orland said, raising an eyebrow as he sat up a little straighter in bed. Luna and Lucky made their way towards Pita, offering some calming hands to rest on his shoulder. Clearly he was in hysterics of some sort. But Pita shook them off, grinning. “I’m not! I’m really not! Look!” He waved it in the air some more and then came over to Grandpa Joe so he could read it himself. “The other ticket was a fake! I heard people talking about it. It’s real! It’s really real!” He was bouncing up and down and waiting for his grandparents to confirm what he was saying by reading the ticket for themselves.Luna and Lucky crowded around, a mixture of disbelief and wonder on their faces. Could their son really have just won a chance at a lifetime supply of chocolate? To visit the once closed chocolate factory?Orland took the ticket, adjusted his fake spectacles, and took a deep breath. This next line was a particularly long one, and it was far too long to actually print on the ticket itself. Logically, there was no way for it all to be printed there, but Orland felt that just added to the whimsy of it all. Besides… he had no issue memorizing it.“Greetings to you, the lucky finder of this Golden Ticket, from Mr Willy Wonka! I shake you warmly by the hand! Tremendous things are in store for you! Many wonderful surprises await you! For now, I do invite you to come to my factory and be my guest for one whole day - you and all others who are lucky enough to find my Golden Tickets. I, Willy Wonka, will conduct you around the factory myself, showing you everything that there is to see, and afterwards, when it is time to leave, you will be escorted home by a procession of large trucks. These trucks, I can tell you are good, you will be loaded with enough delicious eatables to last you and your entire household for many years. If, at any time thereafter, you should run out of supplies, you have only to come back to the factory and show this Golden Ticket, and I shall be happy to refill your cupboard with whatever you want. In this way, you will be able to keep yourself supplied with tasty morsels for the rest of your life. But this is by no means the most exciting thing that will happen on the day of your visit. I am preparing other surprises that are even more marvellous and even more fantastic for you and for all my beloved Golden Ticket holders - mystic and marvellous surprises that will entice, delight, intrigue, astonish and perplex you beyond measure. In your wildest dreams you could not imagine such things could happen to you! Just wait and see! And now, here are your instructions: the day I have chosen for the visit is the first day of the month of February. On this day, and on no other, you must come to the factory gates at ten o'clock sharp in the morning. Don't be late! And you are allowed to bring with you either one or two members of your own family to ensure that you don't get into mischief. One more thing - be certain to have this ticket with you, otherwise you will not be admitted. Signed… Willy Wonka.”He took another deep breath immediately after, feeling a little lightheaded. Everyone simply stared in awe at the impossible little ticket. “Oh, but that’s tomorrow!” Orland gasped, handing the ticket back to Pita. Both Lucky and Luna were amazed now, but glanced at each other sorrowfully. “I don’t think I could get off of work with such short notice…” Luna said quietly. “And they need me down at the power plant,” his father added, frowning as well. They both needed to keep their jobs if they were to support so many people and pay for the cost of living after all. But it was so hard to pass up such a wonderful and amazing once in a lifetime experience! Lucky bit his lower lip, “And I’m sure this will be broadcast to every news station and paper around the world so I can’t play sick either…” “Well… then… who will go with him?” Luna was thinking about neighbors… friends they might have… but there weren’t many to count. “Maybe someone at the laundromat has a day off-““Well… Maybe I can do it,” Orland said, sitting up. This was ridiculous, of course, as his fellow bedmates all told him. He hadn’t left that bed in decades! None of them had! But in Orland’s opinion (which he had continually argued with Blackberry about over the whole course of the production), miracles could be brought about through acts of great passion and desire. Wonder and love and amazing stories could work magic, he felt! And this was his explanation for why Grandpa Joe now pulled himself out of bed and began to wobble around, catching himself comically on Pita (who had been a little nervous about being squashed). Charlie had to get to Wonka’s factory somehow! The Bucket family’s luck was finally turning around!Everyone watched in wonder and amazement as the elderly bed ridden man walked about! Luna was insistent, “Father! Are you sure?!? Can you really walk all around the factory for a whole day with Charlie?!?” It all seemed rather impossible! And Lucky found himself even stopping a few of the other old folk from trying the same and getting out of bed as well. Pita was grinning though. He had always loved Grandpa Joe after all and the excitement from getting a ticket still hadn’t worn off! He really had done it! There were no news reporters… No, nothing really here for them but yet they had done it! He had found the last golden ticket! And Orland was excited for his own little duet with Pita. Orland had a special place in his heart for both of Leeks’ children, and so like Sprinkles before him, Pita found himself with a particularly enthusiastic stage partner in Orland. As this was his only solo, Orland was determined to make the best of it and pulled out all his silliest dance moves (courtesy of Sugo, as usual). The days ahead of them were bright and the dark days of before were behind them now that they had a Golden Ticket and could finally, at long last, fulfill their dream of seeing the fantastic Willy Wonka’s factory all for themselves! When the number was finished, Orland did an impressive split that even made Ari wince. Hopefully he would be able to keep walking for real after that, but no one else got to see his pain at the moment because as the audience applauded, the curtains closed for the quick ten minute intermission. Ari breathed a sigh of relief. So far so good! Now they just had the chocolate factory tour and then it was curtain call! She would hurry out on stage to check things and also to help her husband to his feet.Plenty of the cast quickly made their way backstage for costume changes as lots of the supporting cast had opted to play Oompa-Loompas in addition to their other roles. Orland, however, stayed put until Ari helped him up from his split. He winced and stood on wobbly knees, laughing quietly to himself to play it off.“Too much, darling…?”“Mmm… knowing you, it was just enough of too much.” She smiled and put an arm around him to support him as they walked backstage. “I wouldn’t expect any less… but perhaps tomorrow’s show we don’t do the splits? Don’t want you to be out of commission for the rest of the nights.” She gave his cheek a gentle nuzzle and then helped him to a seat, wondering if she should get Ashley just in case. Thankfully the most he would be doing for a bit was walking around!“Don’t fret, my love,” Orland said staunchly, puffing out his chest. “The Inimitable Indomitable Orland O’Dell is in tip-top shape and the prime of his life! Now… Help me find Momus. It’s his big moment soon! I need to give him a once-over.”They passed Fable and Sprout, who were both chatting happily to each other as they worked together to bring in more of the beautiful edible props they had prepared just for tonight. Orland could see Extinct staring longingly at them and Luna gently turning her husband’s face away to distract him. He smiled to himself, feeling incredibly fond of all his friends, as he always did during performances. Everyone at the Playhouse worked so hard… They were truly lucky to have everyone!“I’ll find him, but you stay here and rest a bit, okay?” Ari adjusted his costume a little and then kissed his nose before heading off among the other actors. She found Momus talking excitedly to his sister, Miseria, who was working special effects this time around while her brother acted. It had been quite a show stopping feat that she herself had gotten a lead the last play! And Ari thought the duo were simply charming. “Momus! Orland wants to give you another run down for the next part of the show.” She chuckled. “Not like you don’t have everything memorized. Seems you’ve definitely taken the performance to heart.” He beamed one of those ridiculously large smiles of his and tipped his Wonka top hat. “That I do, little miss! But I’ll go ahead and ease your husband’s worries anyways and let him give me that run down. Toodles!” And he bounded off, leaving Ari with Misera. The two shifted awkwardly, wondering if conversation was supposed to happen between them now before Ari cleared her throat. “Well, Miseria! I should let you get prepped with Emera and Norton for special effects! Thanks for all your hard work.” She bounced a little on her toes, wondering if she was needed elsewhere to help boost morale as well. The dark lady seemed to sense this and nodded quietly. “Right… I’ll go and… do that. Take care, Ari…” And then she seemingly floated across the stage to go disappear into the shadows. Whether she was going to meet up with the other special effects crew or not, Ari didn’t know, but she made her way back towards where she had left her husband just in case Momus needed saving now.But it seemed he didn’t. When she found them again, both Momus and Orland were speaking Wonka’s lines in complete unison, mirroring each other’s actions. It really was almost a sort of funhouse mirror effect, with both their bouncy blond curls, rosy cheeks, and bright white smiles. Orland finished the scene off, gave Momus his blessing, and sent him off before turning to Ari with a wide grin.“Right, then… I think we’ve got this. Where’s the kids?”“Are you talking about our kids or the ones taking the tour?” she chuckled after watching the whole mini rehearsal. “Because the latter are all in their places next to their supposed guardians! And our little ones are either in the nursery or on Nana Dot’s lap. You know how much Rosie loves the shows.” She grinned right back at her husband and her tail curled. They didn’t have too much time before the play resumed, just enough time to catch a breather.“Glad to know the kittens are accounted for, darling, but you know I mean our actors! One last pep talk won’t hurt, will it? Or am I being overbearing…?” Orland tilted his head at Ari, then glanced over her shoulder to see Pita, Calamus, Lacey, Akiko, and Skinny all lined up and glancing over their scripts together. He supposed it was silly to call them “kids” since only about half of them actually WERE kids… but still. The sight of them preparing together did ease his constant nerves a little… even if Skinny looked like he was slowly inching away from the little group. Maybe he concentrated better on his own?“I think it’s just the normal amount of overbearing when it comes to you, but it looks like they’re concentrating right now. Perhaps this time we just relax and trust they’ll do their best like at rehearsals.” Ari glanced over at the parents as well. She was pretty sure that half of the nervous act Ashely had was sincerely nerves, but Elenor seemed to be holding it together which was good! She felt a panic in her heart as she realized her friend was going to leave soon… That just meant they better put on one good show to send them off. “Speaking of places, we should get you ready, too. Are you going to wear a different outfit? Did Grandpa Joe wear his best suit? I can’t remember what we decided.” She rubbed her cheek, knowing that he would probably fret over that now more than the actors.Orland simply put on his dusty hat, wrapped his colorful scarf around his neck a few times, and gave his little cane a fanciful twirl. “I thought it best to go… shabby chic. We have to stand out from the other families, after all! But I suppose you’re right, darling… I think we can trust our performers! We’re lucky to have so many veterans, aren’t we?”He checked his watch (which was just a prop, but worked just fine) and gasped. “Man alive! The curtains are rising in… thirty seconds! PLACES, EVERYONE!”This caused everyone to scramble suddenly, cast and crew alike. The final touches to the outside of Wonka’s factory were quickly fixed in place, last-second adjustments were made to costumes, and everyone ran onstage to hit their marks before the curtains rose. Orland quickly kissed Ari on the cheek before running to find Pita, grabbing the poor kitten’s hand and dragging him onstage behind him where they would be center stage…“Nervous?” Orland asked. Pita simply squeaked in reply.Smiling to herself, Ari nodded to Mimo who was pulling the curtain at the moment. She didn’t bother to tell Orland they could probably have just waited until everyone was in place before they raised the curtain, though. As soon as the red curtain was up and the chatter and lights from the audience had died, the music started up in a grand band sort of way! Karma came back on stage for her last speaking role for the night! “And here we are folks! Outside the gates of the mysterious chocolate factory of Mister Willy Wonka! Where five lucky children from all around the world are waiting for their opportunity of a lifetime to start!” she said, introducing the scene. There were a crowd of extras around the gate but the five kids and their families were kept at a distance from everyone so that they wouldn’t be lost in the chaos. A few of the kids were sizing each other up, and the girls seemed to be having a staring contest even…Though there was a bit of banter between the kids and their parents to help set them up a little further, the big reveal was just about to occur… Everyone fell silent as the gates swung open and out stepped a man in shadow, making his way dramatically to the forefront of the stage where the spotlight shone upon him in all his glory: Momus as Willy Wonka!Orland had been most pleased with Momus’s enthusiasm for the role. Nobody could deny that he cut a perfect figure as the amazing chocolatier… and that he looked perfectly dashing in his fancy purple suit. There were a few debates over what he should wear… but in the end, the iconic purple outfit won out. Besides… Orland thought it went splendidly with Momus’s golden hair. He actually wondered if he himself should start wearing purple more often…“Welcome! You wonderful, wonderful lucky children! And these must be the parents! Welcome, welcome.” He would shake each of their hands, somehow insulting and praising each one as he did so… It was impressive how he could deliver such lines without batting an eye. Especially when he heard Veruca’s name and told her that it sounded like the name of a wart. Once everyone was through the gates, they were rolled away off stage along with all the crowd that could follow them no further. They would instead be getting ready for another special costume change after all…“Now, come in! One at a time! We have so much time and so very little to do!” He laughed and then waved a hand in the air. “Strike that, reverse it!” And it would lead into the first number of the second act as the kids and their families were swept into the chocolate factory to begin their tour! Orland had to stop himself from singing along to Momus’s enthusiastic number. He imagined the role of Wonka was an incredibly fun one! But he was determined never to cast himself as a main lead… for now, anyway. As Wonka introduced himself to the kids, it became very clear what motivated each of them— and their parents. Elenor wheeled Calamus along as he crossed his arms, grumpy that his various snacks he’d brought along had been confiscated. Lacey continued to boss Bug around, who was eager to make sure his daughter was as happy as possible… to avoid her yelling. Harlow strutted along confidently with Akiko stepping in time along with him, both their noses pointed in the air. Violet Beauregarde was a star, after all, and her father was determined that she would earn more fame than ever during this venture. And then there was Skinny, who bragged nonchalantly about having hacked his way into winning his ticket, which Wonka apparently took in stride. Ashley looked quite frazzled as she followed along beside him, fruitlessly trying to keep him from disrupting anything. And lastly came Pita and Orland, looking thoroughly disheveled in comparison to the others’ flashier costuming… but neither of them minded, in awe as they were of the opportunity to enter the factory at long last! They had both been practicing their looks of starry-eyed wonder and had gotten very good at it.After walking a bit, they stopped before a large set of doors, and to the side was a contract that spanned from the ceiling to the floor. “Now, I have many wonderful top secret things in my factory! And so, before we can begin our tour, I must ask each of our contest winners to sign here, promising to keep everything you’ve seen here today as secret from the world! And while on the tour that you don’t touch, ingest, sniff, scrape, bump or destroy anything beyond these doors without my express permission! And etc. etc. etc….” He waved a hand and held out the fancy purple quill.“Hold on, Veruca I don’t want you signing that till we’ve read all-“ Bug started, but he was quickly interrupted.“We don’t have time, ladies and gentlemen! We must keep going! We have so little time!” Momus called excitedly.Despite all the parents’ protests, the children were all insistent in getting this boring part out of the way so they could finally see what they came to see… and so Lacey muscled her way up to the contract (pulling her fancy dress out of Bug’s insistent grip) and was the first to decisively sign it, displaying her dominance. And so it continued one after the other: Skinny, Akiko, and Calamus all signing with Pita bringing up the rear.“Excellent!” Momus said, drawing a small curtain over the contract before the adults could get a closer look at all the fine print. “With that out of the way… it’s time for the main event! Follow me, everyone!” “What do you think we’ll see, Grandpa?” Pita asked Orland in an excited stage whisper.“I don’t know, Charlie… but it’s sure to be amazing!”They walked across the stage, and through a bit of magical illusion the stage itself seemed to get smaller… or was it the hallway? Because they were all soon crowded and pushing into each other and complaining. “Ah, excuse me! Here we are! It’s all just through this door!” Wonka said at last, pointing to an impossibly small door. “B-but there’s no way we can fit through that!” Squeaked Ashley, her tail pulled as close as she could to her since it was so squishy where they were at. “Really? Well… I think-“ and when he turned the handle, there was a flashy bit of light magic and then… suddenly… the backdrop fell and the edible wonder that Fable’s team had whipped up together was on full display, with an incredible working chocolate falls that disappeared into a pool that had a well crafted draining system that went below the stage. It was basically a giant chocolate fountain! “That it all depends on your perspective of things!” And he moved forward a few steps and let everyone enter the wondrous room beyond. As the music from the orchestra swelled, all actors onstage went silent for a long while, simply allowing the audience to take in the wonder of the beautiful set. It was certainly their most elaborate one yet of any of their shows. The cafe team had completely outdone themselves, all led by Fable’s artistic vision. And though none of them had taken a bite of anything yet, Orland knew it would be as delicious as all of their other amazing treats. He grinned to himself as he imagined Fable taking their own turn as Wonka the following night. They truly were every bit the exceptional artist that Wonka himself was!In the wake of everyone’s silence, Momus stepped forward and began his own song, a wistful and dreamy ballad about the wonders of what imagination could accomplish. As he made his way around the whimsical set, everyone was finally turned loose to explore it all, tasting everything they could. Orland himself had a notorious lack of appetite… but apparently Fable had seen fit to tempt him with a beautiful display of flowers clearly crafted from grape lollipops. And he couldn’t resist, pulling off one of the large “petals” and giving it an experimental lick. And as he suspected… it was amazingly delicious! Looking around, he made note of all the strawberry and cinnamon flavored treats so he could share them with Ari later… but of course there was more than enough to go around for the entire cast and crew later! He just hoped Fable had plenty of backups prepared for the next few showings…For Ari, it was absolute TORTURE to be simply WATCHING. She stared from behind the curtains with big wide sparkly eyes and forgot about giving cues for a moment. Her mouth was watering and she just wished she could taste some of it. Maybe after they were done with the show they could all get a taste of the wonder currently on stage. Snapping out of it, she realized Calamus was already in position for the next part and Veruca had already pointed out the funny looking people. These “people” started coming in from the audience itself! Slipping in from the auditorium itself and walking down the rows, passing sacks from one another and starting a beat. It was a fun bit of immersive interaction, having the Oompa Loompas in the isles! But while everyone was distracted by the sudden humming dancing colorful cast among the audience, there was a shout from Elenor! “C— Augustus! Get away from there, you’ll fall in!” The boy was kneeling out of his wheelchair and getting huge pawfuls of chocolate. But Calamus had been training for this moment, shoveling large handfuls of the delicious molten chocolate into his mouth, completely deaf to his sister’s orders. Momus gasped and began running up to him, also shouting for him to stop. After all, this chocolate couldn’t be touched by anybody or it would be contaminated! But Calamus simply leaned over further out of his wheelchair… and true to the warnings, he tumbled right in!Everyone screamed, including some of the audience. Orland didn’t wonder why. They were probably concerned for poor Calamus, who obviously couldn’t swim. But they had made sure that the river was actually incredibly shallow, only deep enough to cover one’s lap if they sat cross-legged. But because the chocolate was so thick, nobody could tell! And so Calamus simply sat up and flailed around, acting for all the world as if he were drowning. Completely covered in chocolate as he was, he looked rather like a chocolate Easter bunny… except he was a bear.A giant transparent suction tube would start moving from the ceiling as Elenor screamed, “He can’t swim! He can’t swim! Someone save him!” But before anyone could do anything he would be pulled up by the tube and… “stuck.” What really happened though was Emera helped him levitate and stopped him at an exact point. There was no actual suction going on, so that he could breathe just fine. “Where is he going?! What… wait…!”“What are they doing ?” Veruca asked in bewilderment next to Willy Wonka from on stage, pointing to the other side of the river.Elenor stopped talking as the sound of music started up louder… and the audience could now see all the Oompa Loompas run from in the audience up to the stage, beginning to sing! A bouncy catchy song all about the follies of Augustus’s upbringing. It was fun to see them all dancing and singing in color outfits! The little Foolie was among the critters, along with some of the other actors who would have been off stage for a while, and even Kennith who had opted for a supporting role this time. Ari found herself even humming along!Orland was very happy with all their Oompa Loompas, dressed in their adorable colorful little outfits. They had worked hard to make them cute… Orland felt that Wonka’s little workers were probably related to fairies and the like! Adorable… but dangerous if rules were not strictly obeyed. He managed to keep himself from dancing along with them, who were all keeping in perfect sync, just as practiced! It was so enjoyable, one would almost forget a kid was getting sucked through a pipe. Well, Elenor didn’t, at least. As Calamus finally shot all the way up (and deposited safely backstage through the special effect crew’s magic), Elenor grabbed Momus’s arm and shook it vigorously.“Where is he?!” she asked, baring her teeth. “He will be made into fudge!” Orland thought that her ursine nature was truly showing through. She was very good at being scary when she wanted to. Fortunately Momus didn’t seem rattled at all.“Oh, no. He won’t be made into fudge, my good lady!” he replied flippantly, gesturing with his cane. “Because he’s headed to the marshmallow room. He would be made into marshmallows. Theoretically.” Elenor’s jaw simply dropped. “Right, then… Oompa Loompas…! Would you be so kind as to lead Mrs. Gloop to the marshmallow room and retrieve her son? We hardly want to send out any Gloop flavored marshmallows, would we? Not the most appetizing sounding thing, I think…”While the rest of the families stood in awkward stunned silence at the tragedy that they had just witnessed, Elenor was led away. Momus clapped his hands together once more, seemingly undisturbed. “Alright, I think it’s best we head along to the next part of the factory before we have any more tragic mishaps with the chocolate river, hmm?” And here he pulled out a whistle and played a little melody on it. The stage crew rolled out a boat across the stage, and it was left to the imagination of the chocolate colored flooring, that it was in the water. It was a huge boat, almost taking up most of the stage! But what most people wouldn’t see is that it was only half of a boat. One side of it! Meaning people could easily get on and off from the other side! And it wouldn’t take up too much more room on stage…The Oompa Loompas jumped in and took positions at the rows, while Momus gestured them all aboard.“We’ll just take the river past a few more rooms until we reach the invention room! If you’ll follow me, please.” And soon everyone was aboard the great brightly painted dragon-headed boat. All the kids sat beside their parents, and Pita whispered to his grandpa in a voice that the audience could hear, “You know, Grandpa… if Augustus and his mom were here I don’t think there would have been enough seats…”“Huh… That’s odd,” Orland said, looking around and noting that Pita was correct. He stifled a grin, not wanting to seem out of character… but he did find this detail funny. It simply lended to his own theory that Wonka knew everything that was going to happen ahead of time.As the boat started moving, Orland noticed a few of his fellow cast members clenching their fists and cringing in anticipation of what was coming next, Pita amongst them. He felt a little guilty, as he had insisted against Ari that they include this scene. He felt it was too iconic not to… and that kids were made of sterner stuff than people gave them credit for! …But he supposed he had been proven wrong in a few places. He patted Pita’s back comfortingly as the backdrop shifted and the lights began to change all manner of psychedelic colors.Fable had performed this scene to perfection in their own audition, but Momus did it justice, too. Somehow it was just as creepy coming from someone who was soft and all smiles as it was coming from, well… Fable. “There’s no earthly way of knowing… which direction we are going…”Ari had to close her own eyes for this part. It actually unnerved her as well, and she never understood why it had been included in the original score. Still, Orland liked to stick to the traditional stuff and so it was included. Then, just when the screams of the children and parents on board got too much and the flashing scenes too crazy and intense… it all stopped! And the lights were back to normal, and the eerie poem of a song Wonka sang was over just like the ride. Looking out, Ari could have sworn there was a collective sigh of relief from everyone in the audience and on stage! And as Wonka hopped off the boat and the others followed, she noticed a few of the parents even had shaky legs. Harlow and Akiko however seemed to be suppressing grins… apparently the whole thing came off rather amusing to them rather than unnerving, but the two were made of stronger stuff. Pita on the other hand had quite the fluffy cat tail, and Ari expected poor Squay to have the same reaction the following night. Hopefully the experience wouldn’t lead to nightmares, as poor Lacey was clinging to Bug’s arm while trying to put on a brave face. Their Mike however, was picking at his ear and idly flicking some (hopefully) imaginary ear wax at Ashley, who was blinking as if her eyes were still trying to focus after the light change.“Wasn’t that exhilarating?” Momus trilled happily, leading them along to the next scene change. All the sets were so elaborate, it was truly a testament to their dedicated stage crew that they so quickly assembled and disassembled them all right on cue. And the Inventing Room was just as much a sight to behold as any other. So many ridiculous machines built from cardboard and plywood and painted all sorts of striking colors. The place was full of ambient sound effects— buzzing, beeping, whirring and the like. This, as Momus explained, was where Wonka tested all his new candy before putting it officially on the market. As such, the lucky winners were the first people ever to see the amazing treats he had in store! This was most evident when it came to the biggest machine which seemed to be creating all sorts of colorful little orbs, benignly riding along on the makeshift conveyor belt that Zero was diligently powering from backstage via a crank.“Now these,” Momus said, “are one of my very greatest inventions of all time… Everlasting Gobstoppers!”There was a shared look between some of the kids as they heard this. Clearly the same thing that Slugworth told Charlie had been told to the others. And so, when Willy Wonka offered to give them each one they all clambered to do so, though Pita a little less enthusiastically. Suddenly there was a bang behind them and everyone jumped! “What in the world-!” Harlow nearly swore and thankfully as he turned, he didn’t nearly stumble over little Veruca who scurried out of the way just in time. As they all turned, a huge machine was rolled out onto the stage. For this bit of mechanical prop, it didn’t actually do anything because the technology would actually be quite crazy to invent, but it certainly looked impressive with many wires, big pumps that moved up and down and even a conveyer belt that was churning out what looked like tiny purple squares into the trap door below. “What is that, Wonka? Seriously, I thought someone’s head might have exploded!” There was a bit of a nod towards Harlow’s own head being able to do just that without him dying… but Momus simply grinned and waved a hand at the machine proudly. “Ah! Now this is my latest and greatest invention I am working on! Here, Charlie. Care to give this lever a pull?” He indicated a lever on the side.Orland nodded encouragingly at Pita, who excitedly made his way towards the machine and pulled the lever just as Momus directed. At once, the lights began to shift different colors once more and Sonia was clearly having a blast up in the sound booth as she improvised all sorts of goofy sound effects as the machine went to work. But what was it doing, exactly…?As soon as the lights and sounds petered out, the machine expelled a single piece of… something. Momus picked it up delicately between two fingers and held it up for all to see. “Does anybody have any idea what this is?” he asked.“It’s gum!” Akiko gasped, and the other children nodded along, figuring that if anybody knew gum when she saw it, it was her. As it turned out, the gum was meant to compress a full three-course meal into a single chewing experience! The most amazing and extraordinary gum in all the world! Before anyone knew what had happened however, Akiko’s paw had shot out and she had snatched it from Wonka. “That sounds like just the kind of thing for me!” she declared and hurried to the side and center stage before anyone could stop her, making a huge show of taking out her old gum and putting the new piece into her mouth. “I’m going to be the first person in the world to have a full course meal from gum!” She grinned and of course began chewing.Momus began wringing his hands. “I implore you little girl, please spit that out! I haven’t perfected it yet… it still has some imperfections!”But he was drowned out by Akiko going on. “Oooh, I can really taste and feel it as if I’m really eating it! The entree is a macaroni salad! Ooo, with fresh hot bread and butter! It’s so amazingly good!” She explained, her eyes sparkling as she continued to chew all throughout her talking.Orland couldn’t help but think if this gum ever happened to be recreated in real life, he’d have a hard time keeping Ari from trying it. He just hoped it didn’t have the same side effect. For as it happened, as all the kids gathered around Akiko in amazement to hear more about the fabulous gum, Momus continued to hiss out his warnings, which went totally unheeded.“That’s my girl,” said Harlow fondly (and loudly). “Tell us more! You’re a pioneer, Violet!” Akiko obliged, listing a few more delicious items… before reaching the dessert.“Blueberry pie!” she said excitedly. “And it’s the best I’ve ever tasted!”“And here we go,” Momus sighed. This was a tricky effect, they’d discovered. They had to partner with costuming in order to pull it off correctly. First, of course, they’d laced the actual gum with a small amount of Blue Potion that would wear off in an hour or so. And then, something strange began to happen with the suit she was wearing… Akiko’s suit had been a hit with the kids backstage during rehearsals, each of them trying it on in turn and pushing one another around like a giant beach ball. And that was quite what Akiko ended up looking like by the time the thing had fully inflated. And although it was actually quite fun to wear, she had to pretend like something horrible was happening to her.And as she slowly started to expand in size due to that little trick, and her color changed, a bit of song started up once more and the Oompa Loompas came up onto stage, encircling Akiko. The audience would be treated to yet another song warning about the dangers of chewing gum! And how it wasn’t good of her parents to put her in the spotlight and flaunt her abilities, giving her a big head focused on winning. As they sang, they got to roll Akiko around on stage, until the music ended and Harlow stumbled to the front, “I have a BLUEBERRY for a DAUGHTER!” And he would faint dramatically, leaving Ashley to catch him as they had practiced. All the while, the other children and their parents were standing to the side, mortified! And on the other hand, Momus had been tapping his foot and swinging his cane in time with the beat. When Harlow passed out, he snapped his fingers in front of the dullahan’s face and made him wake up. “I assure you if we hurry, your daughter will be quite alright.”“W-what?” Harlow said groggily. “What do you mean? Can you bring her back to normal?”“Well, she’ll be back to normal as can be… Can’t say I’ll be able to get rid of the color, but time is of the essence!” He waved over Kennith who twirled over in their colorful outfit, grinning. “Roll miss Violet to the juicing room! You know what to do.” Harlow seemed to have recovered more. “Wait, the juicing room…? What are they going to do there?”“Well, they’ll squeeze her, of course. We have to get all the juice out before-“ And here he waved his hands in an exploding gesture. “Pop! Not a pretty sight… We lost a few Oompa Loompas that way.” And so Harlow fainted again, this time being caught by the Critter Clan, and with that he was dragged off the stage behind the rolling Akiko. But despite that particular hiccup, Momus didn’t seem to want to slow down when it came to the tour. It just went right along as if they hadn’t already lost two-fifths of the kids in scary accidents along the way. But the next room would put Violet’s exit out of their minds completely…Bubbles! Bubbles everywhere! This was a perfectly simple effect… They’d just had to buy a lot of bubble-making toys! The stage crew quite enjoyed this effect, as it basically allowed them to goof off and play while technically doing their jobs. The bubbles swirled around the room as Wonka introduced them to the place where he was working on his newest soda pop… Fizzy Lifting Drinks! Absolutely amazing sofa that made you lighter than air and lifted you right off the ground! Once he got the formula exactly right, it would be sure to be one of his most popular inventions yet!“But we mustn’t dally!” Momus concluded. “So much time and so little to do! Haha, wait! Strike that! Reverse it! And on we go!” He spun on his feet and then ushered everyone along! Veruca and her father, and Mike and his mother scurried after but… Pita and his grandpa lingered behind, the voice of Momus eventually fading. “Grandpa, we’re going to be left behind. Are you all right?” Pita looked worriedly at his elderly grandpa, “Do… you maybe want to sit and rest?”“No, I was just thinking,” Orland said, scratching his chin. “…Do you want to try a sip of this soda?”“Grandpa!” Pita gasped. “It’s not ready yet, Mr. Wonka said! Look what happened to Violet!”“Ah, he didn’t say not to try it,” Orland reasoned. “Just a sip! All he said was the formula wasn’t quite right yet… so we probably won’t fly. But I bet it tastes swell!”And so poor good little Charlie was corrupted by his childish grandpa… Orland supposed he saw what Blackberry meant about the guy… but he had to admit he himself would probably have gotten in trouble right around here too. It was just so entrancing! And so he and Pita took the tiniest sip of the soda laid out… and Orland was thrilled to see that Fable had provided grape soda just for him.Pita and his grandpa stood there, nothing happening for a while as the audience waited with them. Then after a bit, he turned to his grandpa looking slightly relieved. “Huh, I guess it doesn’t work after-“ and then he squeaked as suddenly he started floating off the stage. “Grandpa!” he cried in alarm, preferring his feet upon the ground. His little paws pinwheeled and he spun in the air, turning upside down. It was quite comical! Even Orland found himself taking to the air as Emera and Misera worked their magic to help them off the ground.Orland quite enjoyed this part… So many other productions of theirs allowed his fellow cast members to fly… but this was the first time he got to do it himself! And so his elation was quite real as he played and spun around in the air with Pita… but he did feel his own nerves welling up when it came to the next part.Of course, they found themselves floating too close to the top of the stage, where a large lightweight fan prop hung from the ceiling. In order to descend, Charlie and Joe needed to realize they had to burp. And while Pita had eventually found success with their enthusiastic tutors, Orland still found his own lapine biology in the way. He just simply couldn’t do it, much as he desperately wanted to for authenticity’s sake. Sonia had promised she would play the needed sound effects for him in the event he couldn’t manage it.He sighed to himself as the time came, knowing he couldn’t actually do it. But wait… Sonia’s sound clips were just that— sound! Pure imitation! He couldn’t actually burp… but wasn’t he an accomplished vocal mimic? He could just sort of… copy the noise, couldn’t he? And who would be able to tell the difference?!Struck suddenly by this brilliant idea, he gave it a try, as loud as he could. Louder than the sound effect that Sonia played for him out of pity. Pita’s eyes widened and he did a double-take which wasn’t scripted, but Orland was elated. CLOSE ENOUGH! His irrational jubilation over this really added to the genuine excitement of the scene as the two of them found themselves lowering back towards the ground. Success! Nothing could stop Orland O’Dell from giving the performance of his life! Not even life itself!Ari would blink, feeling Orland’s elation. Somehow a miracle had happened and she had no idea how he pulled it off! Just moments ago he’d had a breakdown because he couldn’t burp! She marveled as with each burp Orland lowered closer to the ground. No one except the theater cast and crew realized just how crazy amazing Orland’s accomplishment was, but it definitely put on quite the show! Up in the AV box Ciaran patted the disappointed Sonia on the head… He knew that she had been very much looking forward to playing her gross sound effects.Orland tried his best not to stick his nose in the air or puff his chest out as he and Pita caught up with the rest of the group for the next scene. Despite his excitement and pride, he couldn’t be out of character. The rest of the group was just entering a new room with a new elaborate set. This one has been fun, because Orland got to help sew all sorts of adorable little squirrel puppets. Each one in the background was attached to an ingenious little device that Vassa had helped dream up which involved a system of pulleys, levers, and strings that were operated backstage to help them look like they were shelling nuts. Vassa said it was basically “just a giant trap”. Considering what happened at the end of the scene, Orland couldn’t really argue with him.Ari had talked Orland down from the mortifying ending for the next part, and they’d opted with making sure every kid actually survived their ordeal… if a bit changed. When picking the next song as well, she had somehow also convinced Orland to go with the song from the movie. And so as Lacey screamed with delight when she saw the squirrels, Ari nodded down at Tyreanna as the musicians in the pit got ready to start. “Daddy! Oh daddy! I want a squirrel!” Lacy begged. “I want my very own squirrel! Please, daddy! I want one! NOW!” And she started pulling on Bug’s arm and stomping her foot.“Alright dear, I’ll get you a squirrel. Just wait a moment!” With a deep sigh, the seasoned actor looked over at Wonka. “How much for one of the squirrels, Wonka? I can pay whatever price-““They’re not for sale,” Momus said with a pleasant smile. “What?!” screamed Lacey. “No one says no to Veruca Salt!” She stomped her foot and glowered up at both adults.Momus, for all the terrible behaviors he had to deal with, was quite collected, “Ah, but I think I just did. No, you may not have one of my squirrels…”His words left her fuming, and she turned on her heels, “FINE! I’ll get one myself!” she snapped, and she started towards the squirrel puppets. “I think… I’ll take… YOU!”And as Lacey started her own little solo, throwing her musical tantrum all over the stage and running circles around poor Bug who was helpless to actually calm her and Momus who was completely unfazed, Orland glanced backstage where a few of the younger extras were waiting in the wings, dressed in their own adorable squirrel costumes (and Squay, who didn’t need a costume at all). Obviously, the puppets couldn’t actually move beyond what they were able, so the audience simply had to accept that there were a few giant squirrels hanging about. It made about as much sense as everything else in the factory, Orland figured.Clearly this was a nut in need of testing, as she was out on the floor and had touched the machine! They all rushed out as she held her last note and swarmed around Veruca. They rapped a fist against her head (to check if it was hollow or not, Momus explained), and then deciding she was a bad nut… they all worked together to lift her into the air and carry her off to the garbage chute where the squirrel puppets were dumping all their own bad nuts. No amount of kicking and screaming and thrashing seemed to deter them, and Lacey was tossed unceremoniously into the chute (which led into the stage’s trap door where she would land safely on several soft beanbags just under the stage), her final scream echoing all throughout the auditorium.Bug seemed to be in shock and he looked at the chute for a good seven seconds before asking, “W-where did my daughter go? Where does that lead?!?” He looked back at Wonka, still taking in what happened.“Well, to the garbage of course!” Wonka explained. “I wouldn’t worry too much though, they only take it out to the dump every Tuesday.” Pita tugged on Wonka’s arm. “But Mister Wonka… today is Tuesday!”All the gathered people looked even more alarmed and Momus made a big show of putting a hand over his mouth in surprise. “Oh dear! So it is! Well… I’m sure if you look in there she may just be stuck in the chute itself, and all you have to do, my good sir, is reach in and pull her out!” He smiled at Bug and turned him towards the chute.Veruca’s father looked once more at the others and then made his way over to the chute and-Orland hoped Lacey had moved out of the way to make room for Bug down there. It was pretty funny to see Bug throw himself so dramatically down the trapdoor… He was usually so clean-cut that it made it funnier when he performed comedy. Momus shrugged as Bug disappeared and turned again to his dwindling tour group as the Oompa Loompas made themselves known again, warning the audience about how bad it was to spoil a child rotten like that. Orland couldn’t help but wonder if he and Ari spoiled the kittens too much… Was this play meant more for children… or parents?“Well,” Momus said. “Three naughty little children gone… Two good little children left.”Pita glanced over at Skinny, who was incessantly flicking one of Ashley’s fins. Ashley had her eyes closed and was clearly taking several deep calming breaths. “Good” was apparently subjective.“Now, I saved the best for last! Aren’t you all lucky to get to see it?” And he pushed a button that was to the side. They all waited, shifting and looking around awkwardly for a moment until there was an elevator sounding “ding!” And what would appear but a giant glass elevator, slowly descending from the top of the stage. Charlie gasped and everyone watched and marveled at it until it landed on the stage floor, and with one more ding the doors opened. “Everyone aboard! This amazing glass elevator is one of a kind~! It can go more than up and down! It can go sideways, back ways, front ways, upside down ways, and even loop-dee-loop! With this elevator, we can go anywhere in the entire chocolate factory!” He waved a hand with flourish. It was a good thing the elevator was glass after all though, because that meant the audience could still see them.“Now, if you look over here on this paneling, it lists all the rooms in the factory! Why don’t one of you pick where we are to go-““Doesn’t this place have any TVs or computers?” Skinny interrupted with a yawn. “Besides the mishaps with all the other kids, this place is a drag… I want some real action!” He pushed his way in front of Charlie and scanned the wall until he pointed at a particularly big button. “I want to go THERE! That seems more my style!” For the audience’s sake, Momus read the room name aloud. “The Television room? Alright then! Press it and away we’ll go!” He gave the boy a strained smile while Ashley rubbed her nose, clearly wishing her son hadn’t done what he just did.As the backdrop scrolled behind them, the actors all had to fall over as if the elevator was truly moving at crazy speeds. Orland was glad they had opted to build the glass elevator out of plastic… He didn’t like to think what would happen if they broke it. But soon enough the stage crew had brought about another scene change… one of the simplest ones as it was so minimalist.“This is the Television Room,” Momus announced, passing a few sets of goggles to everyone. Orland had trouble fitting them over his spectacles and Pita put his on upside down… but they figured them out eventually.“But there’s only one TV,” Skinny pointed out petulantly, pointing at the small screen that was sitting conspicuously in the center of the stage.“A very good eye you have,” Momus replied, apparently unfazed. He went on to explain about the new technology he had developed… a new technology that would bring Wonka candy right into everyone’s homes through the magic of television! As somebody who still had no idea how television worked, Orland truly thought this invention of Wonka’s sounded quite probable.“Now let me demonstrate! Everyone, goggles on!” And he put his on over his eyes as some Oompa Loompas dressed in white suits came out and put a giant candy bar on the center of the stage. Momus turned to the audience. “Ladies and gentlemen, for those sensitive to light I ask that you close your eyes for a moment! Yes, there we go!” This had been said with the raiders in mind of course, and Ari had thought it best they were careful about anything super flashy. And then with a brilliant flash the giant bar of chocolate was gone!Charlie gasped, “Oh! Where did it go?” Everyone looked about until Wonka chuckled and pointed up at the sky.“It’s up there! In a million little bits. Now, if you’ll all turn your attention to the screen…” And sure enough, materializing there in the TV as if by magic (which of course it was in reality) a smaller bar of chocolate appeared! “Go on,” he said to Charlie. “Take it! Try it! You can really grab it. And the best part is it still tastes as if it’s simply a giant condensed chocolate bar! Amazing, isn’t it?” He seemed rather proud of himself. “It will be for all the kids out there in the world who have never tried a chocolate bar… Imagine, a commercial for my factory comes on and everyone gets a free sample teleported directly to their TVs at home!”“This might actually make commercials bearable,” Orland said, grinning at Pita who was cheerfully nibbling at the miniaturized candy bar. Skinny, however, seemed decidedly less impressed.“You’re telling me,” he said, pointing at Momus, “that you’ve invented teleportation technology… and you’re using it for candy?!”“What else would I use it for?” Momus asked.“You could teleport people!” Skinny yelled, throwing his hands in the air. “Send them anywhere you want via television! This is a scientific breakthrough you’re wasting on something totally useless!”Momus looked affronted by the insult and perhaps that’s why he didn’t stop him as Skinny ran to the center of the stage. “All right everyone, I’ve decided! I’m going to be the first human in history to be teleported through TV! I’m going to be famous! I won’t ever have to work. There will be interviews and stories all about me all around the world!” He painted a vision of fame and power. “And the best part is I won’t have to do any work to achieve it! Fire away!”“No! Mike!” His mother lunged to grab him, but Willy Wonka put an arm out to stop her just in time as there was another flash and… Mike Teavee had gone. In reality, he had dropped through the trap door and through a bit of projection magic, he was now being shown on the tiny screen in the room. Then, just like before, the music started up and all the Oompa Loompas in the room wearing those white suits began their last and final song…This song was quite energetic and loud, befitting the energy of Mike Teavee, all about the dangers of letting technology raise your child for you. Though in Mike’s case… it seemed difficult to know what else would have helped. Ashley naturally freaked out over her new miniature son… but Skinny hardly seemed upset by it at all, the little projection walking around and bragging loudly through a small voice changer they had stored under the stage, causing his voice to sound much higher pitched than before.“Not to worry, Mrs. Teavee,” Momus told Ashley, patting her consolingly on the back. “Everything can be set right again… Young boys are exceptionally stretchy, you know that? I’ll just have my Oompa-Loompas run him through the taffy stretcher and he’ll be good as new! …Maybe a bit taller. And skinnier.”“The t-taffy stretcher?!?” she squeaked, looking utterly mortified. “B-b-but but but but—!” “Ah Ah Ah, my sweet, dear lady. I assure you, everything will be all right. Now, will you all escort Mrs. Teavee to take care of her son?” And as he spoke, he reached out and “pick up” the tiny projection of Skinny and deposited him into the pocket of one of the Oompa Loompas, this one being the adorable Lil’ Miss No Name (who was beaming excitedly up at her adoptive father). She saluted and then bounded off stage, allowing the others to escort the pale and worried looking Ashley with them. “Now,” Wonka clapped his hands together and beamed, “How many of you do we have left.. Just one? Excellent! That means we can conclude the tour! If you’ll all just head this way, I’m a very very busy man and I have many, many things to do!” And he began walking off the stage as if to lead them to the exit.Pita and Orland glanced at one another in confusion. The tour was ending? So soon? They followed Momus along through to the next set, which looked to be a very messy office of some sort. Momus had sat himself down and began scribbling away at some paperwork, now completely ignoring the two of them left standing around.“Er, Mr. Wonka…?” Orland asked, glancing back at Pita. “I was just wondering… about the chocolate?”“The chocolate?” Momus didn’t look up from his paperwork, his demeanor now very different than it had been before. Both Pita’s and Orland’s ears lowered in dismay at the change in tone. Was something the matter?“Yes, for Charlie. His prize?”Wonka put down his pen and frowned as if confused. “He doesn’t get the prize.”Grandpa Joe looked incredulous, and he glanced back at Pita. “Why not?” “Because he broke the rules.” The chocolatier sat back and rubbed his forehead as if he had a headache.Still, perhaps out of guilt as he recalled that one time he coerced his grandson into doing something Willy Wonka hadn’t instructed them to do, Grandpa Joe continued to press on. “What rules? We didn't see any rules, did we, Charlie?Pita shook his head briefly, but looked worried himself. It was probably simply to support his grandpa more than that he actually agreed at this point.Momus however, suddenly sprung up from his chair, startling both Grandpa Joe and Charlie as he started to shout. “Wrong, sir! Wrong! Under section 37B of the contract signed by him, it states quite clearly that all offers shall become null and void if - and you can read it for yourself in this photostatic copy-“ he stopped and grabbed a magnifying glass before he continued to read on, “I, the undersigned, shall forfeit all rights, privileges, and licenses herein and herein contained, et cetera, et cetera... Fax mentis incendium gloria cultum, et cetera, et cetera... Memo bis punitor delicatum!”As he finished, he slammed the contract copy and the magnifying glass down, and then continued shouting. “It's all there, black and white, clear as crystal! You stole fizzy lifting drinks! You bumped into the ceiling which now has to be washed and sterilized, so you get nothing! You lose! Good day, sir!” And with that, he turned back to his work and pointedly ignored them. The two of them simply stared after Momus, letting his last words echo through the room with that cold sense of finality. “Y-You’re a crook,” Orland said, finding his voice. “A cheat! A swindler! Look at what you’ve done, building up a little boy’s hopes up and then dashing them at the last second!” He gestured angrily towards Pita who seemed to be getting smaller and smaller, shrinking down into his little coat. “You’re… an inhuman monster!”“I SAID GOOD DAY, SIR!” Momus didn’t bother turning around, but simply shouted aloud from his seat. That seemed to end the matter entirely. Orland continued to stand there, shaking in feigned rage. Then he turned to Pita, grabbing his paw and leading him towards the exit.“Don’t worry, Charlie. We’ll get you that chocolate one way or another. You still have that Gobstopper? If that Slugworth fellow wants one… he’ll get one.” But at this, Pita pulled his paw free from Orland’s and took a few steps back, looking conflicted. Orland stopped and stared at him in confusion, gripping his cane. After a moment’s more hesitation, Pita turned and wandered slowly and quietly back to Momus’s desk, as if not to disturb him. Then, he took from his pocket the odd colorful ball that was the Everlasting Gobstopper, and placed it on his desk. “It was really wonderful… meeting you, Mister Wonka. Thank you for showing us your factory.” And with that, the little boy turned and hurried back towards his grandfather.Willy Wonka paused in his scribbled writing and looked up, saying softly under his breath, though the speaker attached to his coat would carry the words to the audience. “So shines a good deed in a weary world…” And then suddenly he was on his feet. “Charlie! Charlie, come back, please! My boy, you did it! You won!” And he was beaming from head to toe as if he had never been upset at all.“Won…?” Orland asked in surprise as Momus picked Pita right off the ground and began to swing him around in excited circles. “Won what…?”“Ah, you’ll see! Charlie, you’ve passed the test!” Momus set Pita back down (and Pita swayed on his feet a little, clearly dizzy), and he gestured to a side door in his office, which opened. Orland and Pita looked around in confusion before noticing the tiny little Orangie who had made his way into the room, beaming cheerfully.“Slugworth!” Pita gasped, pointing to him. But Momus simply laughed and bent down, allowing Orangie to climb up his arm and rest upon his shoulder. “No, no, no! You see… he works for me! I had him approach each of the winners with a request for an Everlasting Gobstopper… and Charlie, you were noble enough to refuse it!”“It was a test…” Pita marveled. The young cat seemed to play the wide eyed amazed child quite well for the part. Like the character, Charlie, really couldn’t believe everything that had happened. That Willy Wonka just told him he had won, but he was about to be even more surprised because Momus suddenly clapped his hands together, bouncing on his toes. “Now we must be off! There is one more thing I want to show you, Charlie, you wonderful boy! Quickly now, to the Wonkavator!” And he ushered them across the stage as the glass elevator slid into view. He ushered the two stunned people in and then smiled. “Now, of all these buttons there is only one I haven’t pushed… would you care to do the honors, Charlie?” It was a simple button with no label and so, with a glance at Orland, Pita moved forward and hit the button. Both him and Orland and the audience were still quite unsure of what Charlie had won. Was it the chance to hit this button perhaps?Orland had to overcome the urge to hit the button himself. It just looked so temptingly inviting, as all big red unlabeled buttons do. But he managed to reign it in and keep his professional poise. As it was pushed, though, he instinctively grabbed the bar behind him to steady himself for the inevitable flying effect. The elevator was lifted up by actual cables this time, as they worried about the abilities of the effects team to levitate such a large object, even together. But this worked marvelously, the elevator floating along as the backdrop changed behind them to reveal a beautiful shot of the city from above. As Pita shouted his praises and amazement over the wonderful magic and the spectacular view, even pointing out their own little run-down cottage, Momus watched him appreciatively, then pulled something out of his front pocket, flourishing it in front of Pita.“My letter!” Pita gasped as he recognized it.“Indeed!” Momus said with a grin. “Seems you’ve a brilliant imagination, Charlie. A mind full of wonder and innovation and a desire to spread cheer with your ideas… You would make a brilliant inventor yourself, you know. That’s why you’ve won the grand prize… The factory.”“The… the factory?!” Orland gasped, clinging to his cane in amazement.“You’re… really giving it all to me? But, Sir… what about you? What will you do?” He stared bewildered and amazed at the candy man, and if Pita’s eyes got any bigger Ari could have sworn they could eat dinner off of them. Wonka smiled tenderly at the young boy before he responded, “I won’t live forever Charlie… and someone needs to continue running the factory! And take care of the Oompa Loompas, they can’t live out there on their own yet after all… I need a child with enough imagination and wonder to create but not change things how they believe it should be because of what their parents said it should be. So tell me Charlie… Will you come live at my factory? And learn to take care of it?” There was a twinkle in his eye and he would seem to have only eyes for Charlie.“But… What about my family?”“Bring them all! They can all come! You’re still learning and growing yourself, after all!” Wonka laughed.Originally, Orland had wanted to end the play by having the elevator soar over the audience, but he was talked down from it, as it was impractical and possibly dangerous. Alas, the concessions he must make… But he was still pleased with the sound of the orchestra swelling, the music dramatic and hopeful and joyous as Momus and Pita gave one another an enormous hug.“But, Charlie… Don’t forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he ever wanted.”“What…?”“He lived happily ever after!”And with that cheerful sentiment, the curtains began to close as the audience outside began their applause. Orland let out a huge breath of relief and beamed up at Pita and Momus, reaching out to shake both their hands on a job well done!“Been an honor and a privilege performing with you gentlemen,” he said with a wink as the stage crew lowered the prop elevator. He was eager to get back down onto solid ground and prepare for curtain call, though he was sure Ari was already rounding everyone up.Indeed, Ari had all the characters lining up, starting with their wonderful news anchor and reporter! She nodded to Orland to let him know they were ready to begin on his call as the applause continued on the other side of the curtain once it closed. When it opened again, the stage crew had rolled the backdrop of the candy room behind everyone so the audience would get a sweet send off! When the curtains opened again, Karma and Fable headed out, their matching sharp toothed grins practically twinkling in the spotlight. The applause from the catering crew would be the loudest as Static shot off some electric bolts like fireworks into the air (much to Orland’s nerves). They all loved their boss, after all! Then they parted and moved to the side as Devin came on with all the kids lined up, he waved an arm out to signal everyone to bow but in the process accidentally smacked Sprout in the forehead. Somehow they all recovered enough to awkwardly bow, and then with the audience applauding and laughing, they headed to the side as well.Next up were the Oompa-Loompas who all marched out in a line. The little color-coordinated dollkinds were perfectly in sync with every step, every swing of their arms. Orland appreciated their dedication to conformity. It really added to their roles. And of course the other Oompa-Loompas fit in very well, every single one of them bowing in unison. Orland glanced over at Momus beside him who wiped a glistening tear from his eye as Kosma took her bow. He understood well… Someday Rosebud would be taking her first bow, and Orland thought he’d probably die of pride. If that was possible.Sugar got to come out next, along with Orangie and Cyrus! The pink sheep twirled at the center of the stage and raised her cane, which Orangie was perched atop so he could take his little bow. Besides them, the regal yet chocolate-covered prince bowed, winking at the audience. Everyone cheered for them, appreciating their contribution to the storytelling, and when they had scuttled to the side, the next group came through! There would be some dramatic sounds of a bed being rolled across the floor as the grandparents, pushed by Luna and Lucky, were brought out to center of the stage! Cream Puff and Peaches were adorably holding hands and giggling as they rode along in the bed, and even Blackberry waved at the audience. Luna and Lucky gave the bed a slow dramatic spin and then they both dipped low in a bow to the audience as well before pushing their “parents” off, the bed taking up quite the room but definitely making quite the comfy spot for the actors who got to be the grandparents to wait for everyone else to come out!Next up came the parents of the naughty children: Elenor, Harlow, Bug, and Ashley making their way across the stage together, then linking hands and bowing graciously as one (though Harlow’s extreme height made it look just a little unbalanced.) They then turned and ushered to a group offstage… their own badly behaved offspring who all made their ways forward to stand in front of their respective parents. They had big grins on their faces despite the evidence of their unfortunate fates all over them. Calamus was, of course, covered in chocolate. He was happily licking it off his paws as Akiko kindly pushed his chair along into position. She, of course, was still blue as the potion hadn’t quite yet worn off. Thankfully, it seemed the “juicing” process had been successful as she could walk on her own. Lacey was covered in prop garbage, accentuated with a fake banana peel sitting atop her perfectly styled hair. And Skinny had swapped out his costume for one in a smaller size, showing several inches of skin to give the effect that he had been stretched out. All four of them bowed together as they stood in front of their “parents”, leaving the audience to wonder if any of the characters had truly learned their lesson…As they made their way to the side of the stage, Orland knew it to be his own turn next. He always loved the curtain call and took a deep breath before skipping and twirling his way merrily across the stage, swinging his cane around jubilantly. Grandpa Joe was really and truly cured… all thanks to the miraculous magic of chocolate and childlike wonder! …Probably. As he took his own deep and dramatic bow, one so low that his hat actually fell off, he savored the applause for several long seconds… then extended a paw towards Pita, who was watching him timidly from backstage. This was Pita’s first time taking to the stage in front of an audience, and as he came out into the spotlight and the applause only increased- partly due to an enthusiastic janitor’s family and friends and partly because he was a lead character- he seemed to be frozen for a moment with those wide eyes of his full of wonder and amazement that he really was here performing in front of everyone. He seemed to come to himself though and blinked, giving everyone a sheepish smile as he took out the golden ticket from his pocket, waved it high, and then accepted Orland’s hand so they could both bow together. From behind the curtains, Ari got a bit emotional herself as she felt Orland’s own feelings sweep through her, and she wiped a few tears away. Moments like this made all their hard work entirely worth it!But of course they weren’t the last characters… As they completed their bow, Pita remembered to turn towards the backstage and gesture for Momus, who immediately sashayed onto the stage with all the pomp and elegance he could muster, his plum coattails swinging behind him. He gave Pita an affectionate little pat on the head, then turned to the audience to give a large, sweeping bow as the applause grew louder than ever. Everyone loved Willy Wonka, after all!The full cast stepped forward at Orland’s signal, and they all bowed a few times as one, letting the applause wash over them. Orland could see grins of excitement and relief on nearly everyone’s faces. Another opening night successful! No matter how many times they ran a show, Orland felt he would always be amazed by the audience reaction… even if he expected it. His playhouse was the best, after all!As he stood again, he turned towards the backstage and beamed at Ari, tilting his head in a gesture for her to come out and join them. She needed to join in the accolades after all!Ari quickly composed herself and then took to the stage, coming to stand beside her husband with a smile. After a small bow herself, she waited for the applause to die before she stepped in front of their cast to speak. “Thank you one and all for coming to our show tonight! We hope you all have enjoyed this evening's production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!” She looked around at their cast behind her and beamed before finishing. “As for now, we wish you all the very best! Safe travels to your homes, wherever they may be, and of course we look forward to seeing all your smiling faces again at our next production! Good night, everyone! And thank you once again for coming here to the Meadow Heart Playhouse! Where drama comes to life…”And with that, she bowed once more as all the lights turned off except one on her. And then with a final click, even that too went out! By the time the lights returned to the main seating for people to start leaving, everyone would be gone from the stage and the great red curtains closed to the audience… Behind them, Ari and Orland were congratulating everyone on their jobs well done! Another show under their belts! But of course, there would be many many more to come…

Snow was lightly falling through the trees that surrounded the quiet home tucked away at the edge of the forest. The late afternoon sun played on the fresh blanket of sparkling white in an enchanting way so that to anyone else in the world it really would have looked like a scene from a postcard. The same calm serenity was reflected inside the house. A mother cat bouncing one of her newborn kits in one arm, while their father held the other practically with one giant wolf paw as it curled against his chest as both child and father snoozed. On the living room floor, Scrapp and Hugo were both sitting side by side, watching as the toy train that they had set up chugged methodically around the Christmas tree- though the holiday had long since ended- their tails wagging every time it came back into sight and then stilling as it rolled away. The scent of honey ham, fresh rolls and pie hung in the air as dinner cooked adding to the lethargic feeling of the late afternoon. Really, one couldn’t have painted a more serene winter day nor imagined that only moments ago there had been whining babies, a stressed mother, and a panicking father running about trying to achieve this quiet happiness they now had.

If only such a moment could last.

The large fox-like masked familiar who had stayed out of the way since the crying had begun earlier that day, did not share such a sentiment. The peaceful family life was- quite frankly- dull… and King felt like he was made for so much more than babysitting little whelps and keeping his bond calm in public.

He huffed quietly and under his mask he would roll his azure blue eyes, though no one could see them. Then, after a few more agonizing moments of calm he couldn’t take it and got to his paws, trotting towards the door. “As much as I love the fact baby Farin’s screaming has stopped, I can’t say this silence is any better. I’m going for a walk.” He huffed to Zix, for the mother cat alone was the only one who could understand him. He was her familiar, and she was his bond… something that had excited him at first since he had felt her raw power and inner chaos upon their meeting, but now slightly disappointed him seeing that she had become almost completely docile and tame with family life.

Almost docile…

There was that spark King knew was still inside her, but she kept it well under control because of a little mistake she had made in the past.

Okay…

Well…

Maybe kidnapping a perfectly happy runaway princess and forcing her back to her home kingdom wasn’t exactly little but it had almost been over a year since that incident! Wasn’t it time for her to move on? Hadn’t that been why she took up that job at Emera’s potion shop in the first place? King shook his head and approached the door. Maybe he could bury himself in the snow and scare some unsuspecting passersby to spice up his evening.

Just as he was about to push the door open, he was thrown back as it burst open! Seems like he was going to get his evening excitement some other way.

“ZIX! I’VE DONE IT!” Shouted the newcomer, shattering the peace of the room. The voice belonged to Zyfe, the white and black cat’s long lost twin brother. The man practically embodied everything Zix wasn’t; outgoing, personable, talkative, excitable and- of course- slightly annoying. Even when he was putting on heirs and being as polite as he possibly could as a lord of a foreign kingdom, King still found it ruffled his fur… but that didn’t bother him as much as his currently bruised snout. “Zix! Everyone! Wonderful- no- excellent news! Absolutely splendid! Why, I was worried I wouldn’t get things arranged on time but heavens somehow I did it! You’ll never believe what I just achieved!” He was talking excitedly with bright sparkly eyes, his arms moving exaggeratedly as he spoke as if to emphasize the importance of this moment.

Farin predictably started screaming again.

King watched with a bit of smug satisfaction as Zyfe instantly seemed to realize his mistake and winced, shrinking back. At least things had taken a turn for the interesting…

Zix would bounce her baby boy and sigh, giving her brother a long exasperated look, “Zyfe… I don’t care how you might have entered rooms in your palace or whatever in the Kat Kingdom, but I have told you a hundred times to knock before coming in… and if you must just enter a room, perhaps enter with some courtesy to be quiet? Especially with babies in the house now?” She sighed in a long-suffering manner, shaking her head and bouncing Farin some more. "Shhhh… shhhh… Please don't cry. It will be okay, go back to sleep little one.”

Besides her Wolfrik had startled awake and so had little Alessia, both blinking in that confused stupor recently snoozing folk tended to have. “Did I miss something? I feel like I missed something…” he yawned, and his baby girl mimicked him.

“Uncle Zyfe is home.” Hugo said, sitting up from his spot on the floor and filling his adopted father in. The teen had grown quite a bit in the last year and Zix had started saying that he would need a new wardrobe if he kept it up. His fur was soft and his floppy puppy ears did that cute wobble whenever he turned his head, a charm that was lost on King. But the boy had a certain admiration for Zyfe- though heavens knows why, “What’s so exciting? Are you still going to tell us?”

Probably got a driver's license, heavens help us all.” King snickered to Zix, but his bond ignored him and he would sigh yet again, taking a seat on the floor to watch things play out in an almost bored manner.

“I-oh! Yes! Well…” Zyfe would stammer, blushing a bit. After his loud entrance he made sure to keep his voice low while his sister kept attempting to soothe her child. “You know how I’ve been talking for a while about possibly entering Sir Fredrick into the familiar show that we saw on TV a while back?”

“Did you enter it?!” Hugo’s eyes were wide and he leaned a little more forward, hanging on Zyfe’s words. His tail right now could have started a hurricane.

“No! Well, not yet… but it’s even better than that!” Zyfe was getting excited again as he spoke, “I heard they were looking for a place to host the contest for winter and, well… I offered our manor! The Western Fort in the Kat Kingdom!” And with this declaration he would stand there proudly and beam as if it was truly the most wonderful news he could have delivered.

The room was silent except for Farin’s now quiet whimpers.

Finally Zix spoke up, “You mean… Your manor. Zyfe, I told you before… Lilypad is my home. It’s where my family is.” The white and black cat frowned, her tail swishing about her feet as she looked back over at Wolfrik as if asking for his help backing her up.

The large Kludde wasn’t so great at picking up cues but he had a big heart and had been trying to keep the peace in the house ever since Zyfe had arrived from the Kat Kingdom. So he would just give his wife an apologetic smile and take their daughter's paw and make her wave at Zix… it was cute, but only succeeded in making Zix smile a little. Perhaps that was a success in some way though King supposed.

“Zix… it’s our father’s manor… and when he died he left it to both of us. We both were asked to care for our people and such in his stead I-if you ever were found of course… so… even if it isn’t home you’ll always have a place there.” Zyfe said softly. For a noble Kat, King supposed his master could have gotten a far worse brother… most nobles in his opinion thought far too highly of themselves. Here Zyfe had come all the way from the Kat kingdom just to connect with Zix and learn about the modern world.

But it seemed that the young lord wasn’t quite finished with what he was going to say, “And… I was hoping… maaaaaaaaybe you and I could…”

The anticipation was killing King so he said it plainly for Zix to understand, “He wants to enter into the competition with you while hosting the familiar show in the Kat Kingdom.” The idea was intriguing to the fox-like familiar at least. It would be a chance for him to shine! And show the world just how brilliant he was… a true king among the peons with which he had to associate. Besides, wasn’t his bond a Royal as well in her own way by blood? His three tails started swishing and the blue marks on his fur seemed to glow with the inner fire that flowed through his veins. Yes.. surely this was something worthwhile to pursue in this dismal plane of existence!

“No…”

King was snapped out of his thoughts as Zix spoke and his head snapped up to face her, actually alarmed! But then again as he thought about it, why should he be…? She hardly went about in public except to work or help fight Raiders gone wild in the first place. He scowled under his mask, ears flattening with annoyance. Yes, his bond mate was completely cowed by her past mistakes. Why would she dare step into the spotlight? Why would she let loose her inner fire?

“No, I can’t… I have my kips to take care of and I don’t know how long we’ll be away from home! And… Zyfe… I don’t really want to be on TV, in the news again or… or anything.” She scratched the back of her head, looking away with shame as her words hung heavy in the air.

Finally it was Wolfrik who actually spoke. He would stand and come over to her, pulling her into a hug, “Zix, luv… it might be good to visit again with our family. Let the pups see the place where their mother was born and… perhaps it will be a positive experience, no? Good bonding time for you and Zyfe. And if you did end up on the news luv, it would only be good news! What’s the harm in participating in an event with him, hmm?”

The black and white cat was weak to Wolfrik’s suggestions. He had loved her even after all she had done and so her love for him and her family was partially what held her together. She melted into his hug and seemed to think about what he had said. The entire house was quiet now, even Farin seemed to have calmed… like everyone was holding their breath for the mother cat’s response.

Finally she spoke. “…Can I have some time? To… think about it? When would we have to leave?” She looked at Zyfe, the uncertainty clear in her expression.

A flicker of hope crossed her brother's face and he would smile warmly at her, his own blue eyes sparkling with hope. “A week, it was all rather last moment… but I have the paperwork! And I already have some costume ideas! Leave all the costs to me alright? If you decide to do this I’ll do my best to make it a positive experience for you! I promise.” He vowed, putting a paw over his heart.

“I’ll… think about it…” came her muffled reply as she buried her face in her husband’s fluffy chest.

King felt excitement rise up in his chest and his tails began to swish again. Did he dare ride the slim hope that he was to be given the spotlight after all? A slow grin spread across his face, projected even onto his mask which was magical in nature. He couldn’t wait.

Then a thought occurred to him. If Zix was going to be performing in the show with Zyfe then…

Oh no…

His smile quickly turned into a scowl as he realized exactly who his partner was going to be. As if on cue, Zyfe would look around with a puzzled expression. “Hey wait a minute… this can’t be right.” He did a 180 and looked high and low in the room for something and as he did so King’s stomach twisted into a small knot of guilt. “has… anyone seen Sir Fredrick?”

Freddy

Life for the pudgy little dragon whelp was nothing short of sublime. His master loved him, he got all the sweets, treats and meats his heart desired, and he adored his bond mate in return. Zyfe could do no wrong in Sir Fredrick’s eyes and he loved the cat unconditionally. Even when he had to stay home without Zyfe around he would wait ever so patiently for him to return, faithfully guarding the door. Then, when the cat would inevitably return he would be met with affectionate nuzzles and snuggles as the dragon returned to following his master around and sticking to his side.

Yes, ever since he had materialized into the world upon his master becoming a witch, Sir Fredrick had nothing to complain about. Life was good.

Well at least… It was mostly good.

He supposed there were worse things than being locked in the dark hallway cupboard. Besides, he was absolutely sure that his master would find him eventually. He didn’t really understand how it was he came to be in the cupboard. He had been waiting on the mat like usual for Zyfe to come home when he had started to doze off.

The next moment he knew both he and the mat were in the cupboard. At least the cupboard had lots of interesting things in it to keep him company! Like the ever intimidating vaccooooom which had a deafening roar! And then there was Wolfrik’s axe that he kept polished and out of reach of children! He often heard Wolfrik talk to the object so perhaps it had a soul and could talk back to him just like a familiar could! Maybe the axe was Wolfrik’s familiar Sir Fredrick pondered, still staying positive despite his situation.

He would stay quiet and look intently through the dark at the door which he was sure was in front of him just knowing that any moment now his master would come and open it.

His nubby dragon horns wiggled on his head as he picked up the sound of Zyfe’s voice! It was coming closer and he wasn’t the only one talking, “He usually waits by the door on the mat! But the mats are not even there… maybe he dragged it off to nap somewhere?” The cat asked ponderously.

A much younger voice chimed in with a big of a yip that must have been Scrapp. The pup didn’t talk much yet but had a few names and words down! “King!” He said gleefully.

No one seemed to pay the pup any mind however as Zix spoke up, “He was on his mat when I went to prep dinner with Wolfrik earlier… Hugo, did you see anything?”

“A-ah… no. I got a phone call and left the room for a moment.” He had been chatting a lot lately with a certain squirrel girl of which Sir Fredrick liked very much. She gave him lots of treats, as did Hugo. Actually Sir Fredrick liked both of Zix’s adopted kids, they gave him lots of love and attention too.

Zyfe! Zyfe! “ Sir Fredrick now chimed, hoping to reach him through their mental link, “ I’m in here! Over here! With the mighty vaccuuuuuum!” He was practically dancing on his chubby little legs and feet, simply excited to see Zyfe again.

Outside here heard his master speak again, “oh hang on, I think he’s in the closet…” and suddenly light would flood into Sir Fredrick’s world! Yes! Yes! He was found! He leapt forward, his tiny wings beating impossibly fast for him to float high enough for him to jump into Zyfe’s embrace. He happily snuggled against the cat’s shirt and all was right with the world.

I missed you! I don’t want you to leave again. “ he would sigh, not wanting to move.

Zyfe would chuckle and give him a gentle squeeze, “That’s what you always say when I come home… still, I’m glad to see you’re alright. How did you ever get into the closet in the first place?”

And once again Scrapp would chirp insistently, “Kiiiing!” and now it all clicked together. All eyes turned to the mischievous fox-like familiar who didn’t even shrink away from their gaze. Instead, as Sir Fredrick looked over Zyfe’s shoulder at the creature it seemed to glare at him and scowl! Wiggling out of Zyfe’s arms he would land softly on all fours to face the other familiar head on. He could do anything with his master by his side after all!

Sir Fredrick didn’t know why King didn’t like him. He hadn’t liked Sir Fredrick from the moment Zix came back from the woods with him as a familiar bond. It was an absolute mystery to the dragon though as to why that was. He never bothered him after that first initial hello… he never tried to take his food. What was it about himself that King so ardently hated?

King shrugged and would stare up at Zix, ignoring everyone else. Apparently he said something however because Zix would frown and gesture to the chubby dragon, “Just because you find someone annoying doesn’t give you the right to shove them into a closet… really now… apologize! Or I won’t even consider the idea of going to even see the familiar show.”

The cat-like dragon demon would huff verbally, his ears flattening as he turned to stare hard at Sir Fredrick. “Sorry I thought you might sleep… more soundly in the dark than in a lit room.” The apology was neither sincere or heart felt and as weak as the excuse given. But Sir Fredrick wasn’t paying attention to that. A show? They were going to be a part of a show?! He was bouncing on his little chubby feet and wiggling excitedly.

It’s okay! I’m okay! I want to do a show!” He would put his front paws on Zyfe’s legs and look pleadingly up at him before asking, “What’s a show?”

Laughing, he would be scooped up and given a hug once more by the cat, “Zix it’s fine! He says that he’s fine… And he wants to do the show! I’ll explain it all to you later Freddybear.” and he would touch noses with his beloved familiar and be all sweet with him. “I want to do a show with you too! I want to show the world just how wonderful you are… I’m so glad I have you.”

And with the affection and those words alone Sir Fredrick was the happiest little familiar in the world. Especially more so than King who was slinking away out of the room to brood… in a way the dragon felt sorry for his fellow familiar. He couldn’t remember seeing him genuinely happy before and it made him wonder… what did make him happy?

Zix

After reassurances that Sir Fredrick was okay, Zix had gone outside. Standing there she hugged herself and took a deep breath, the winter chill clearing her head for a moment. She didn’t want to feel pressured into making a decision but Zyfe, her kids and even her husband seemed to want to encourage her to go and enjoy herself. Truthfully she felt an inner desire to relive those days when she was more confident in herself… more capable. More… free. But she felt shackled by her past mistakes.

She had worked so hard to make up for it… talking with Orland and Ari… verbally apologizing and finding any little way to fix things. She knew that they would never trust her, and she felt it was justified that she would never be able to set foot in the playhouse again. In fact she felt like she had gotten off easy and that made her feel even worse.

But would something absolutely horrible happening to her fix anything? Or just make more people miserable? Especially since she knew she had people around her that loved her now too…

Shaking her head she would take another deep breath, her ear twitching when she heard pawsteps behind her. She didn’t even need to turn around to hear that it was King.

“That was a half baked apology to Sir Fredrick King… and you know it.” she sighed, staring ahead at the tree line in the fading winter’s evening.

The familiar came and sat by her side on the ground, his head coming up to her shoulder even as he sat. For a moment he was quiet… but then finally he spoke, “Perhaps… I am simply jealous with the amount of affection and praise he receives from his bondmate?” he jabbed quietly, “Or… I find him annoying. Who’s to say. But he’s clearly unhurt by the incident.”

Zix felt a small twinge of guilt. She had gotten King so she could have someone there for her when Wolfrik was off working at the hotel as security. So she didn’t do anything stupid she supposed… but that was just it. King lived for being chaotic and making choices others might question. And what scared her was that she knew that had been her before the whole of Lilypad stormed the castle. When she looked at King she saw a bit of her old self… “...I’m sorry… I’ve been busy with the kips and… Emera’s shop. You know you could have been helping out there too if you hadn’t knocked off an entire shop simply because you were bored and wanted to see what would happen when the potions mixed!” she huffed, shaking her head.

King chuckled, “It was interesting to see the carpet turn into a snake and then have to fight it off though… you have to admit it spiced up that quiet afternoon.” His tails swished and he would tilt his head at her, the blue eyes behind the mask almost piercing into her thoughts. Part of her sword he could read them. “But… you can’t even handle a little excitement these days. Why did I become your familiar so late…? I wish I could have seen that spark truly shine…”

It was hard to really understand what he meant. Sometimes Zix wondered how smart her familiar really was… She blinked slowly and sighed, looking down at him. “Sparks turn into flames… and flames can burn out of control sometimes. So it’s best to keep it from burning anyone…” she mumbled, shaking her head.

“Zix… The flames also light up the night… they keep people warm, alive and add interest in a world of darkness!” He would nudge her with his nose and then ask ever so softly, “You’ve beaten yourself down enough… haven’t you? Please… Just think of entering the familiar show, if not with your brother then just with me? I would like to shine and show off to the world… And I think you need to learn to shine again. Even just a little bit.”

His words surprised her. Wolfrik had tried many times to get her to forgive herself and just keep living and being better each day… And so had many of her friends. But she supposed she was the only one now keeping herself from just living again. She looked back out at the forest once more and was quiet for a moment. When she spoke it was soft, but King’s large ears could pick up her words just fine. “Maybe… Just a little bit.”

Her familiar leapt to his paws and grinned, the toothy smile taking up most of his masked face. “I’ll take a maybe over nothing! Besides, if we let that fluff brained lord go alone with the kids who knows… they might end up proper little lords and ladies and want to stay in the Kat Kingdom!” He snickered at the thought and would weave his way around her. Zix could have sworn he even had a smug expression on his face, most likely because he felt pride in the fact he had managed to sway her.

“Not on my watch…” she laughed, shaking her head and allowing herself a brief moment of levity. “I can’t imagine any child of mine becoming a proper lord and lady of anything… I think they may have just a bit too much chaos in their blood. And I want them to be free to live their lives the way they want.” She shook her head once more and started for the door.

“Wonderful, because life without a bit of surprise and chaos is simply boring!” Her familiar replied, his laughter following soon after.

She rolled her eyes and sighed. At least she could be sure that most everyone in her household would be happy with her tentative decision to participate in the familiar show after all.

Zyfe

“I don’t know Mel, maybe you could persuade her to go. I mean… you got her to go back to the playhouse that one time- even though it ended up a slight disaster she still went!” Zyfe had his phone to his ear and was tucked away in the room he shared with Hugo. He was still pretty set on convincing his sister that participating in the familiar show was a good thing and that she should join in the fun! But didn’t know how to go about it… even after all these months he never Zix really had yet to connect as siblings. Still… he admired her and loved her and wished he could have found her earlier on in her life so she didn’t have to go through as much hurt as she was now.

He had called Melanie to talk about his problems because she was the first person he usually thought to talk to about problems these days. Actually she was the first person he usually thought to talk about anything with these days. As much as he was loath to admit it- mainly because of complications and not wanting to ruin the good thing they had now- but he had a slight crush on the fiery scatterbrained dragon girl and sometimes he didn’t know what to do with those feelings. So he was just happy to stay friends and talk and goof around as they were now.

Her voice came from the phone and jolted from his thoughts, “You’re her brother mister cat lord. You gotta keep trying is all, I’m sure she’ll come around if she sees just how much it means to you!” There would be a brief pause before she added, “But if she gets cold feet call me. Ari won’t be the only cat in Lilypad getting kidnapped by a dragon and dragged back to the Kat Kingdom if it comes to that, haha!”

Zyfe chuckled along with her and rolled his eyes, and when he didn’t say anything for a while Melanie reminded him, “You know if you’re nodding or shaking your head or rolling your eyes I can’t see you remember?”

“Ah! Right. Well lady Melanie, I was rolling my eyes if you must know. And I have a huge smile on my face too!” He laughed tail curling happily. Even talking nonsense with his friend put him in better spirits.

“Indeed, I must.” Then a pause, “Guess what? I was nodding just now.” And both of them would break off laughing.

There was the sound of someone coming back inside and Zyfe’s ears twitched hopefully. “Oh! I have to go… my sister just came back in. I’ll let you know if she needs kidnapping or not.” He was reluctant to hang up but also felt like he needed to check on Zix.

“Aaaalright… keep me posted Zyfe! And for the record-“ she would chuckle, “I am waving goodbye.”

Zyfe actually snorted in an unlordly manner, “Melanie, I’ve had a phone long enough to know that no one tries waving goodbye when they end a call.”

“Well maybe I’m the first! You’ll never know because you can’t see me! Toodles!” And she would hang up first after laughing some more.

Still smiling he stared at the funny screensaver of him and Mel after she showed him how to take a selfie before pocketing it. Then he slipped off the bed and walked out of the room, ears perked. Sir Fredrick, who had been curled up in his fluffy dog bed, would immediately follow after. “Zix?” He asked hesitantly, looking around for her.

“Right here…” came her muffled reply from the puppy and kludde hug pile that he spotted in the center of the living room. “Sorry for walking out on you guys earlier… I just needed some space to think…”

Zyfe eyed the group hug and wondered if he had missed anything. Had his sister started crying? That seemed a little out of character… she was somber but hadn’t cried since he had gotten to know her. Her will wasn’t broken, just her spirits. “Are you… feeling better now?” He glanced between her, Wolfrik, the pups and the smug looking familiar Zix had. He never really got along with that particular familiar… and he felt like the feeling of dislike was mildly mutual. What kind of creature purposefully locks someone in a closet??

Zix wiggled out of the hug, both her kips now in her arms and cuddling close to each other. Stepping away, Wolfrik was grinning and holding Scrapp, his tail wagging. Before she could respond for herself however, Hugo would chime, “She’s going to do the familiar show!”

“I said I might consider doing the familiar show! I’m still a bit hesitant but-“ his sister began before she looked around at everyone and sighed, “Oh who am I kidding… yes. I’ll do the show… but I don’t know the first thing about this kind of thing. I’m out of my element!” She frowned and played with little Alessia’s tiny paw as she thought. The kip would curl her fingers around her momma’s hand and coo which got a small smile out of her. Slowly it seemed they would be able to bring that light back in Zix’s eyes and heart!

Zyfe was grinning ear to ear, “Don't worry about that my dear sister! While I haven’t been in a familiar show I have watched them extensively since they started airing here in Lilypad! And of course as royalty I know a thing or two on wowing an audience… all about putting on a good show~!” He winked, quite possibly reminding Zix annoyingly of a particularly chipper rabbit that liked putting on shows as well.

Turning on his toes he waved a paw in the air and started thinking of all the arrangements and plans, “For now we have to get the paperwork filled out! And of course the costumes, aaah! All the best shows had the most splendid costumes my dear sister! I’m thinking… swirls and stripes… oh! And of course we must all be on theme! It’s going to be simply wonderful!”

Now that they had him going he would be hard pressed to stop. Zix reached a paw out to touch his shoulder, “Okay… you lost me at theme… what exactly is that?”

“Well…” Zyfe began, trying to slow down for his sister’s sake, “each show is based around a theme! You get graded or extra points if your performance has something to do with the theme going on in it! And you’ll never guess what this theme is! Though of course most have to do with foods but… well Anyways, take a guess!”

Zix raised a brow at him and looked back at the rest of her family, “I’m clueless… anyone else want to guess?”

“Fruit?” Hugo threw out there, not entirely sure himself. But Zyfe was already wagging a finger no and shaking his head.

“Nope. The theme for this competition is Just Desserts. And I think I have an idea for a show stopper that will top off the whole thing! Now- to costumes! We got so much to prepare before we take to the stage! Haha and of course I also need to actually prepare said stage! I’m glad we’re not in this alone, right Sir Fredrick?” He beamed over at his familiar who hovered by his side as he headed to the door.

“Yes! I won’t leave your side!” The pudgy dragon loyally responded. His unwavering love for Zyfe always made him all the more endearing! And the cat would pull him into a hug… and then his sister and everyone he could reach into the hug.

“You guys are the best.” He murmured after a few surprised remarks at being pulled into another group hug for everyone, “I’m so glad to have a family again like you guys.”

He wouldn’t see his sisters face soften just a little but he did feel her hug him back as she sighed. “I’m glad you found us too Zyfe… I think I needed some of your light to learn to shine again…” she whispered.

Zyfe hoped that was true. And he hoped that she could really learn to do just that… shine again.

Thank you everyone who participated!

I loved seeing each entry, how you all portrayed such different characters and stories for this adopts background! I'll list each entry before I announced the winner at the end, but first off I want to give a special thank you to all participants by giving each of you 1 ticket to Zyfe's Travel Agency, so whether you won the adopt or not you still can have fun in the Kat Kingdom!

Entries

mrp1213 told an endearing tale of the Kat, Kiran. It spoke of loyalty to one's people and has the potential for many new characters to be introduced! From riding lizards to sweet bean mothers, I really enjoyed the perspective and the developed background you gave them! Your writing is always so charming! I also definitely wanted to go and give that king another punch, apparently he still hasn't learned to play nice!

[CC] DTA - Sword the Castle

double-anon created a beautiful drawing of the adopt character, visually showing how they became interested in Lilypad after seeing Zyfe and Emera's tour in the kingdom! I loved the tie in with other characters and the shading is so soft and warm! Beautiful work!

CC-This works too right-Adopt entry

ArtistDetective has their whole reasoning figured out with how they need to keep an eye on the potentially dangerous villagers that come and go between the Kat Kingdom and Lilypad! The comic is charming and I love how the shield surfing/sledding behind the lizard mount was depicted! And the art style has such personality and squish I can't help but love them! The tie to Zyfe is always enjoyable as well and I can see lots of fun potential interactions in the future if this path was taken!

oORiddleOo is an excellent writer so I was excited to see an entry by them! And I definitely wasn't disappointed! The characters all have depth and their own personal conflicts and interests going on within the telling of Romulus's First Flame. I love how even though initially he really wanted to appear just fine without her but then- well I'll let others read this but I completely recommend it! And would love to see even more character development in the future between Romulus and his sweetheart.

:CC: Kat adopt

Last but not least we have Shinobi-Kitty 's comic! I love the darker past that this character had, where they were hired on at first as an assassin only to find out that their employer was the one who hired them to start with and now since they proved themselves getting this far, they would be tasked to watch over his kittens! This shows connection/devotion that goes far back in the past and I love the inferred telling that even after all these years they're still devoted to keeping an eye out for the young lord and lady, even after the master passed away many years ago. The potential for lore development and character interaction is really interesting to me! I also enjoy how you draw cats~! It's super cute!

Adopt Winner

The decision was really hard and I mulled over who it should be for quite some time. In the end I decided I really loved the complexity of Shinobi-Kitty 's backstory and I'm also a sucker for lore that intertwines with my character's own stories! I'm excited to see how your character develops over the course of coming to lilypad!

Thanks again everyone! Feel free to link back to this post as your claim to your travel ticket! Keep an eye out for the next adopt come next anniversary! Till then, happy storytelling and art-making!

Your visit and decisions will affect the kingdom's people or you can help uncover lost Kat Lore which will be recorded and revealed HERE~!

(In short, this is a fancy little art trade in an rp setting!
Whatever art or story you create I'll match and more some in a response piece which depicts what happened next or how your trip concluded!)

How It Works

Step by Step Guide by zixmix
Pixel Star (free to use)

Step 1:

First you'll need to snag yourself a tour ticket~!
These snazzy tickets are limited in number and accessibility (Zyfe is only one man after all) so the only way to get your paws on one is to either have received one from Zyfe himself through an rp, or get lucky with one of the raffles! These tickets can also be traded and bought from villagers who already have one, but only 3 tickets are released per season so keep your eye out for them either on the CC discord or in the shop! The seasons coincide with Creature Crossing's current seasons.

Pixel Star (free to use)

Step 2:

Choose a region in the Kat Kingdom which your villager would like to visit most!
Is your character drawn to the sweet serenades of mystical purrmaids? Or perhaps wishes to explore the rich history filled capitol city itself? Depending on where your villager chooses to be taken they will have different reactions/townsfolk/sights or even found treasures there when it comes to the last step! "Treasures" range anywhere from a secret hidden adopt to traditional garb or armor or even weapons! Though if you trigger such a treasure find also depends on Step 3.

Labeled Map by zixmix
Kat Kingdom Map

Pixel Star (free to use)

Step 3

Draw or write your villager's initial experience upon arriving at their destination or doing one of the many available Kativities found in the Kat Kingdom!
Choose your season! The seasonal events going on around the kingdom might also interest you! Is your villager interested in history? Shopping? Sights? Or wants to challenge themselves at a tournament or event? There is a myriad of possibilities so have fun! (Disclaimer: You do NOT need to be currently in the season to write or draw about your visit. It can be a past or future visit at a preferred season time!)

All art must include a background and at least one full body and shaded character.
All writing must be at least 1,000 words long and leave the ending open for a continuation piece.

Your villager can bring along a plus one! But both villagers MUST be approved CC villagers. They do not inherently need to belong to you though! If your character DOES bring a plus one then they must be included in the story and art (you can't just say in the form that this person came along without showing it).

If you have any questions or want specifications to help you with drawing or writing your experience feel free to ask Zyfe HERE~!

Step 4:

Post your art to CC and then respond to THIS COMMENT with a filled out form:

Form:
Chosen Villager(s):
Valid Ticket Link:
Map Location:
(Moutain Wilds, Fisher Bay, Capitol City, Grassy Plains, Zyfe's Domain, Swamp lands, Dessert Providence, Floating City of Frisk, Forest Dwelling, etc.)
Relevant Art or Story:

Pixel Star (free to use)

Step 5:

Wait for your response!
Adventures (art and story) can take some time to complete after all! Depending on what art/story you've created will decide what kind of response you'll receive! So if you wrote a story expect a story back. If you drew art expect art back!

There is a limit to this however! All written given responses will be no longer than 2,500 words. All art will be no more than 4 full bodies and two backgrounds. I don't want to end up having to make an animatic as a response basically haha! This is just a fun rp story/art trade after all!

Thank you

Shop Front

You see a lone cat in a fancy suit vest and slacks, his eyes extra sparkly and his hair slicked back as if he is trying to look as professional as possible (and yet somehow failing at it). He's just too excited after all!

1405e21d-2181-4e3e-924a-7d67fa220987 by zixmix Zyfe: Hello there my dear fellow! Are you interested in perhaps braving the unknown and seeing new worlds? Or trying new exotic tastes and daring challenges?

Looking to get your paws on a ticket? Check out the current ticket raffle HERE!
(There is a small bell fee of 500 bells to participate, only 10 raffle entries per user - not per villager. Raffles will be rolled once 50 raffle tickets are bought so you always have a 1/5 chance of getting a ticket per raffle drawing)
Or RP and ask questions HERE~! (Occasionally tickets are given away here in rp setting! This is an rp journal after all~!)
